Major League Baseball Playoff Tiebreaker Info

1. When there is a tie for a Division Championship and the breaking of the tie will result in the losing team nonetheless being the Wild Card team, the Division Champion shall be:
a. the team with the better record in head-to-head competition. . .

2. When there is a tie for a Division Championship and the breaking of that tie will result in the losing team(s) not being the Wild Card team, the tie for the Division Championship shall be broken as follows:
a. Tie between two teams. The League President shall conduct a coin flip to determine the site of a playoff game between the two teams, the game to be played the day after the conclusion of the championship season. The winner of the game shall be declared the Division Champion.

Had all three teams tied with the same record, situation one would apply. The reason no game would be played in the event all three of these teams had tied is because the loser of the "Divisional Championship" would then had been one game behind Cleveland in the standings for the Wild Card. So, they settle the "Division Championship" which is meaningless (except for home field advantage) by the tie-breaker, and they allow Cleveland and Boston (had Cleveland won yesterday) to play one game for the Wild Card.

I think situation 2 would apply only in the case where New York or Boston had the same record atop their division, but the Wild Card team (from another division obviously) had a better record.

You have a problem with too MUCH light? In a Los Angeles house or apartment? I'm truly stunned. Everywhere I've lived in this city, I've been waging a perpetual battle for light. Certainly a dimmer switch is a must, but consider yourself blessed that you've got the option for full blown illumination.

Actually, most of them are high school drop-out (or skated by because they were baseball stars) southern good ole boys. Dave Winfield famously once told one of his NFL friends how lucky the friend was to be on a team where everyone had gone to college. He said something like "being on a baseball team is the loneliest thing you can imagine."

I'm sure Dave was right. I've always wanted to be a pro baseball player, but I don't think they're coming up with a cure for bovine spongeform encephalitis down in the dugout.

? Like there aren't enough overhead lights? The bedrooms had none at all, which was annoying from a painting perspective because I was trying to paint at night. But my overhead light-age is great.

Another great Vancouver band

Opening up for the New Pornographers (awesome, of course) and Destroyer (blechh, of course) last week was a Vancouver pop trio called "Immaculate Machine." The girl keyboard player/singer, who the liner notes tell me is named "Kathryn Calder," played the entire set with the New Pornographers as well.

Dan Bejar came out for his four or five NP songs looking like a homeless guy who just found a 1/4 full Heiniken bottle in the trash.

Anyways, this band Immaculate Machine was awesome live, and their CD is very good. Very catchy pop songs played to perfection. Check em out.

I think we are talking past each other, but I do acknowledge the likelihood that they average MLB player is not an intellect. I lived with a few college players in a group house one year in law school. If they were an indication.......

There's a lot more to play for if it's a chance to be in the playoffs than simply to determine your opponent and whether you have home field advantage. Given the Yankees' effort yesterday, which mattered at least as far as their getting a higher seed, one can see why they don't bother with playoff games merely to determine seeding.

I'm not disagreeing with your logic. I just think that there should be one standard for determining who is or isn't in first place (and thus who wins the division).
