exactly. news reports about legal matters never hit on the important points, like say if the wife had great big titties and was wearing something low cut, then you understand why the prosecutor tried to make the joke to seem cool.

That's odd, but I got that same sense too. In your mind's eye what color bra strap was showing?

I was drinking with an old professor from Harvard on Thursday, the one who talks about mind over matter/power of positive thinking psychology. I think it was her influence.:):)

I thought we'd decided to keep the Crimson heritage on the DL here, so the "also-rans" feel less intimidated?

I believe Sidd has always wanted to go to Alaska, if you can't find a local.

What is a photocopying machine, or why I learned to stop worrying and love attorneys.

About three times a year my uncle forwards me that collection of trial transcript excerpts that make lawyers look stupid. I tried explaining once that just because the pathologist is performing an autopsy doesn't mean the patient was dead at the time and you kinda need the guy to say "OBTW he was dead" to avoid a motion for directed verdict etc., but my uncle wasn't having it, so we just agreed he could continue to make fun of lawyers and I could continue to be disgusted by his job as a GOP lobbyist.

All I'm sayin' is that it wouldn't surprise me that a clerk/recorder would want a clear question about what was meant by photocopier. Those guys are a breed unto themselves.

ETA this was the part where the Plaintiff's lawyer revealed himself to be the source of the problem with the transcript:

Quote:

Deponent: When you say “photocopying machine,” what do you mean?
PL: Let me be — let me make sure I understand your question. You don’t have an understanding of what a photocopying machine is?
Dick move by the lawyer. What a transparent effort to score points. If things went off the rails from there he has no one to blame but himself.

Or "photocopying machine," which probably is next to the facsimile device.

No offense to your uncle (or my own past political experience) Lobbyist are glorified car stereo salesman, although the shit that they sell is packaged some what differently than car stereos. If the link is representative of what litigators do, I want my tuition money back, as all I really needed to be a lawyer was a seminar in effective shit sales techniques.

No wonder no one likes you guys. no offence.:(

I doubt anyone is offended. Being a GOP-aligned lobbyist is a cush job -- if you win, you win, and if you lose, well, that's just further evidence that government is a hopelessly fucked-up enterprise and everyone needs a lobbyist to keep The Man off your back. I mean, look at all the shitty legislation these dumbfucks pass!
