Reggie Bush Bowl
Because they can't even manage to lose a game properly, the Texans barely lost the Reggie Bush Bowl in San Francisco on Sunday in overtime. It was a nail biter, especially for those of us who had to keep track of the score on the internet. Why, Fox, why did you switch over to the already over Washington/Eagles game, when you had an overtime game in the race for last place going on? *ahem*
Anyhow, my question is this: Do you all think that winning the Heisman trophy is an indicator of greatness in the NFL? I have helpfully attached (of course the table formatting is fucked up) a list of the Heisman trophy winners since 1980. It seems to me that past performance is not an indicator of future success for quarterbacks, but the receivers and backs are solidly good. With a few exceptions both ways. (Bonus question: Woodson still a better pick than Manning?) So should we hold on to our hard-earned draft choice (assuming he decides to go to the NFL this year instead of running back to USC now that he knows he's likely to end up in Houston), or are we better off shopping the pick around? 2) Other than Testaverde and Flutie (jury's still out on Palmer) is seems like a Heisman QB is destined to fail, which isn't totally surprising given that QBs in college often punish mediocre teams and are rewarded for gaudy statistics, rather than tough victories. |
