We enjoyed our stay at W Lakeshore and I've had pleasant stays at several other Chicago hotels. Apparently resting on some old reputation because it currently sucks. Much like the Waldorf-Astoria in NYC.

Yep, the Palmer House Hilton is much like Paris will be in 30 years, or maybe sooner at the rate she's going... Resting on laurels and seriously showing its age.

Between the two W's, I'd go with Lakeshore, especially on the weekend and for non-business travel. The City Center location is way down in the loop, and it's kind of dead down there on weekends. The action moves up to Michigan Avenue then, and the W Lakeshore is much closer.

As for other hotels in the area, the high-rent district has some of the best hotels in the country, with the Park Hyatt, the Four Seasons, the Ritz-Carlton and the newer Peninsula. Each of the last three has been ranked by prominent reviewers (i.e. Conde Nast, etc.) as the best hotel in the country, period. Others that I've stayed at which are nice are the Intercontinental, the Hyatt, the Renaissance...

As for the Hotel Burnham, it was completed in 1895, so it probably wasn't under construction during the Fire of 1871. It is one of only a handful of Daniel Burnham's buildings to survive to this day.

Thanks for the info. The rooms in that one a pretty nice - especially the corner "suites" and the location is not bad for downtown stay. Also the downstairs restaurant is not too shabby. Was Burnham a big shot Chicago architect?

No. An episode or two will get you on track with who the characters are; topically each episode is pretty self-contained so you can follow right off the start.

There is a lot of information in these posts. I'm confused. And bewildered.

Let's have a poll, where should Penske stay will be the subject. Serious replies only, its got be cush, my candy-ass demands no less.

And skip the Four Seasons. While an excellent choice, I think I will take the money differential between the Four Seasons and one of the lesser luxury places and roll into my hookers and booze budget.

I will be in a meeting for a couple of hours and will check back then for the results.
