I spend two weeks taking classes at Pepperdine to learn to mediate. I have not had the half thought of ever doing it.

A Mexican immigrant, Ilario, came to America 30 years ago. He busted his ass, worked every job he could find- ate shit from bosses, but he did it- and he saved what he could.

Ilario loved books, and he read every night. Taught himself English, and eventually took classes in literature at the local college. When he was 50 he realized he had saved enough to start a business- there was never a question what- he opened a book store.

And what a bad decision. A book store in 2018? He stood at his counter every day that first week reading the newspaper and waiting for his first customer. The lack of buyers for books made him mad, at himself, and the political news just made him mad.

Then a customer came in! A big fat white guy, MAGA hat, stars and bars T-shirt. Ilario knew this man was not his friend, but he also knew he had to treat ALL customers right.

The customer said, "Do you have the new Donald Trump book?"

Ilario couldn't believe it, his first customer was looking for a book he would never carry. He just said, 'no."

The customer, "Hey, don't you speak English? The President's new book? You must have it."

"I do speak English sir, and I do not know of his books."

"Listen Mexican, you're in our country and this is our President's book. How could you not have heard of it? Can you read?"

Well that was it. All the decades of being quiet broke out of Ilario. "Get the Fuck Out of Here and Don't come back! Don't want and don't need your kind here!"

"Yeah, that's the one. You got it then?"

Indeed, Paulie might have already been singing this morning, before the plea was entered.

So far it looks like the administration's response is "it's not about Russia" but sure looks like it's about to be.

Among other things, the $45 million of assets that Manafort forfeits (in a way that appears to prevent him getting them back with a pardon) pays for Mueller's investigation. So much that waste-of-money talking point.

You forget, conservatives organize and act in lockstep very quickly. For a SCOTUS seat, getting 65 people together on short notice isn't a heavy lift. Particularly when most of them are probably graduates of nearby girls' schools in DC who stayed in the Beltway, and are mostly also affluent GOP/moderate Democrat voters.

This sleuth is overthinking things.

I have to give props to Feinstein. She orchestrated this perfectly so far. They may very well pull this off, particularly if Flake and Corker decide it's payback time for Trump.

I wonder what Paulie thinks about at night in that cell. None of this had to happen to him, and all of it accrues from his own ego. They'd dropped prior investigations into him and he had piles of money (if he'd sold some of his properties, rather than refinancing them to live like the .000001%, rather than just the .0001%). But he had to get back in the game. He had to be the man again.

I always worry when I agree with you, but if you give me the kind of staff and the kind of roladexes these people have, of course I'll get 65 people corralled on short notice to say just about anything. Or just give me a network of determined women. What I wouldn't be able to do, though is vet all 65 to be sure I was comfortable they were strong witnesses. Two politico reporters are going through and calling the names to see who stands by their letter now. Two yeses, two no comments, and a couple dozen not available so far. Exactly. Right now, a consultant is crazily calling all of these people and telling them which telephone call numbers not to answer. And Politico is busy using all sorts of burner phones and private cells to get around that.

This is a hell of a gutsy move for that professor. Life is never going to be the same after this.
