Not true. I am cool with aging as long as I look really, really good for my age. So as long as I look 26 when I am 36, I say I win. When I am 60, I don't want to look 30, as long as I look 50, I win.

I like to think of this mathematically. I look 10 years younger than I am. Then factor in that I date guys at least 7 years older than me. But then, I only date them if they look 5 years younger than they are.

Add it all up and I look 12 years younger than my man. See, no need for plastic surgery. It is all about the numbers.

Oh, I think I made it through knowledgeable enough about pop culture. Once the children in the family outnumbered the adults, my parents gave up the little battles about TV selection, and concentrated on the bigger stuff like making sure that we survivied childhood relatively intact.

We were grounded from rated R movies for two weeks when my five year old sister called my 9 year old brother a faggot at the dinner table in front of company. He didn't come out until 11 years later.

In law school, I went with a group of friends to see Thin Red Line. After it was over, the theater was silent as the credit "Directed by Terrence Mallick," appeared. At this moment, I hear the guy sitting behind me say, in a matter of fact way, and not really for anyone else's benefit, "Fuck Terrence Mallick." Perfect and priceless.

No. I have explained this once before, but maybe you were absent that day. It is because I get hugely turned-on when my b/f gets hugely turned on by my body. It makes for hot as hell sex and I am sure that there may even be some "sex is power" aspect to it. But never spent too much time analyzing it. It is one of those if-it-feels-good-do-it things for me. Just seeing him like that is almost enough for me to orgasm, but not quite enough, as I still need at least a bit of direct clitoral stimulation for that.

When you both are 22, it doesn't matter that you are the same age, because at 22, if the wind blows across his crotch he gets turned-on. Now when guys get a bit older than that, they get, for lack of a better term, more discriminating. And if you ask me, they tend to discriminate toward women that are younger than they are.

So you see, it is really all about the sex for me. Other than politics, it is my only hobby. Running and working out aren't even hobbies for me because I do them so that the sex stays hot.

Carry on.

I didn't say without violence there was always consent, which is what you are saying.

I said rape is an act of violence and that there is no consent. With the exception of statutory rape, where the victim is considered incompetent to give consent, the absence of consent is what makes a sexual act a rape. The motivation for the sexual act is to commit an act of violence. But sexual desire is not part of the equation. It is an act born of violence.

If there is no consent, it is a rape by definition and rapists are motivated not by sexual desire, but by a desire to committ an act of violence.

That is what I was saying about rape.

I supose you can come up with a fact pattern where the woman or the man is being coerced to the point that they don't feel they have the option to refuse the sex. Therefore, you could argue that there was no consent, and thus a rape.

The fact pattern you describe sounds like sexual harrassment.

Were you absent from crim law or just sleeping the day they taught you the elements of the crime or rape? The issue is consent. End of story.

All the talk about power, violence and any other factor you think is the motivation for a rape is psycho-socio-pathology. But it has nothing to do with the crime. I don't agree that it is about power. It is about violence and consent.

The interplay between sex and power has nothing to do with rape if there is consent. It is that simple. Go dust off your Emmanuel's and brush up on your Crim Law, 'kay?

I am not optimistic. I don't think a clean-and-sober (and older) Janes can ever come close to the fucked-up brilliance of Nothing's Shocking. I saw them in Seattle on that tour. Dropped acid on the way there. During the opening act (some nondescript skate punk act), I was beginning to think that was a mistake. Cramped seats, too many people, slightly negative vibe. Then Jane's came on and fucking blew my mind. Perry actually got in trouble with the FBI that night. It was early into the Bush I regime, and Perry said to the crowd, "Who's going to be the first one to shoot President Bush? I guess I'll have to do it." Followed, of course, by an incindiary "Pigs in Zen."
