in p-pack i had to keep the silli on the qt and vice versa, but each came with it's own list of bragging subjects, yeah.

So did you own the car parked in Harvard Square years ago with the plate reading LSAT 48?

Back when I took the exam, there were 12 people who did better than my 48. I have yet to meet any of them and I'm not sure they're real.

When I was a first year associate at a large Palo Alto law firm, one of my peers was a recent Harvard grad. On the day the bar results came out, he was the only one among us who was not anxious, and told a bunch of us at lunch "it is statistically impossible for me to fail".

Well, statistics be damned. He failed.

So Harvard doesn't do a very good job of teaching statistics.

{Current consumer debt} + {Balance of mortgage} is one approach, if your spouse would probably continue working, and/or remarry. Insurance salesmen will also tell you to add projected college costs and income replacement, but for many of us that double-counts the mortgage figure, if the idea was you would cobble together HELOC money and loans and/or gifts or financial aid (your kids' father is dead in this scenario, remember).

Shit, an insurance salesman would probably tell you to add up all your debt-encumbered assets and make sure the policy will give them to your spouse free and clear, but frankly, carrying term life so your widow can continue to be a property baron is an expensive way to protect against a risk of becoming middle class, ya know? Enough to cover the primary residence mortgage is enough for me. Let the sucker who marries my wife figure out a way to keep the lake house.

I'm sure I'm going to regret this nearly as much as trying to explain to the socially tone-deaf Fugee Sister why it was not a good thing to ask our cousin's wife if she is on anti-depressants at a family deal yesterday.

If you just want to enjoy learning and being back in school, take something fun and easy at the nearest community college.

I don't understand what you think going to an online unaccredited law school will accomplish for you besides costing a pile of money. You talk about moving up in your present place of employment but I don't understand what kind of movement you can get from this. Is this something you've talked to the HR dept about?

Will you still enjoy life if you get your online J.D. and find you've wasted all the money and time? I know plenty of un- and under-employed lawyers who went to accredited law schools and regret the time and money they spent.

This just doesn't sound like a very good plan. It sounds like such a poor plan that I'm coming around to the sock theory.

From what I understand, vuvuzela night at the Marlins game on Saturday was on par with disco night in Chicago and 10 cent beer night in Cleveland as far as "most successful baseball promotion EVER*" go.

This is my favorite headline, but there are many others.
Quote:

Florida Marlins "Vuvuzela Night": Disaster Of Biblical Proportions

"The Marlins, Rays and umpires seem to agree on one thing about Saturday's game - they didn't like the vuvuzela-like horns that were given away by the Marlins to the first 15,000 fans.

'That was the worst handout or giveaway I've ever been a part of in baseball,' said Dan Uggla, who wore earplugs. 'This isn't soccer. I know the World Cup is going on but this is baseball.'

'I really believe the horns should be banned from Major League Baseball,' said Rays manager Joe Maddon."

Vuvuzela giveaway night was a disaster of Biblical proportions, it made the infamous Disco Demolition Night that took place 1979 at Comisky Park in Chicago look like a hippie peace and love picnic.

Baseball players, managers and umpires rarely agree on anything, but they were unified in their hatred of the vuvuzelas.
Excellent. My boyfriend has plans for taking one to Texans games to inflict upon Tony Romo and Peyton Manning every time they're calling plays. I imagine there will be a league wide ban by mid September, so he'll have to employ the instrument effectively in the time he has available.

*If mass pandemonium and chaos and possibly tears is your definition of "success."

I thought that was great, too. Also, for both, the requirement is 4 years and 864 hours of preparation + instruction per year--3500 hours for a slim chance of converting all that work and tuition into being as miserable at work as Icky.

Of course, Abe Lincoln is about 10% more total for all four years than Pace is for one year as a evening student. So if one merely wants to say "I'm a member of the bar" (why, I don't know), it's relatively cheap.

Like. One multiple-tester I know went to Lincoln Law School. The other went to Stanford. Each took four tries, IIRC.

The approach needs to be decided based on an assessment of all your assets, including your spouse.

The key to life insurance planning is to factor in both the amount of estate tax your spouse will need to pay and the relative youth and hotness of your spouse. Young, hot, trophy spouse = don't cover all the estate tax; long time spouse your own age = cover the estate tax. Do otherwise, and you insure at your own risk.
