This is why I haven't bought an iphone. I like Verizon a lot, and every single one of my family members has an iphone that either drops me or doesn't ring when I call. They have all sorts of cool programs on their phones, and they can do a shit ton of stuff that I can't do.

The Droid causes me to rethink my previous strategy (hold out until Verizon gets a shot at the iPhone). I'll probably wait a few months to see how well people like it (and what the downside is, I've heard some not so good things about additional fees), but it's getting rave reviews right now.

I'm a slow learner, but now I know if I'm travelling I tend to turn off 3G unless I specifically want to access data and I'm just checking whether a 3G network is available.

It's not all bad news, though. The browser speed is very good and the camera is downright decent, considering. And I continue to find that almost always, yes, there is an app for that.

3G does not drain my battery. I have a 2nd gen iPhone. I have 3G on at al times. If I'm not messing around with other apps and internet, etc., it holds a charge for about 2 days. Uh, it may be relevant to mention that I hardly talk on the phone at all though. Just not a phone person.

I don't know what generation I have. It says 3G sometimes. I have a supplemental battery thingy. I don't talk on it much at this point.

I think yours is the same as mine -- 3G. I don't think 3GS was out yet when you got yours.

I misspoke about being on 3G all the time. It is on our wireless network when I am at home. I always use 3G when out of the house though because I've never had much luck with outside wireless networks and 3G works perfectly fine for me (when, uh, I'm somewhere that AT&T chooses to cover with their 3G network). Never noticed any particular 3G battery suck.

The rollover minutes are the only reason I am on ATT. I typically use 300 minutes a month, but twice a year have busy travel periods where I may use 1100 a month. With Verizon, I was forced to pay for a mega expensive plan. With ATT I use the cheapest family plan.

As far as IPhone battery life, if you use it as a phone or ipod and for email, it isn't that bad. When you surf the web, you see the battery drop tremendously. I just keep a charger everywhere, rental cars included.

Wifi seems to suck more juice than even 3G, but as Icky said, it's active web surfing that sucks the juice the most, along with the phone. Oh, and being in a low-reception area. I have some app that really seems to suck the juice--sometimes. I think it's the Map function if "show traffic" is enabled.

I charge it every night (3GS) because I can't make it through 2 days without a charge.

There were so many surreal moments, from his pathetic 4 am voicemails disclosing he'd been at a gala and with "a friend" to actually seeing him behind the glass in a striped jump suit, to seeing him actually emerge, in an untucked shirt and carrying his possessions and cufflinks in a bag.

Bottom line: don't drink and drive.

Ex-LMA or different ex?

Don't you usually date men who could afford a car service if they plan to drink much?

I think it's obvious that Sidd likes the idea of a Tuesday regular. For some things, even spontaneous married guys will open a spot on their schedule.

They did a striped jump suit for an overnight lockup, and had him talking to you from behind glass? Things have changed since I hung out in overnight lock-ups. And I thought he was in a tux in jail?

By the way, who was it who wouldn't answer a friend's call from the Hospital at 4:00 am?

The ex-LMA.

He rarely drinks, so it never occurred to him that he would get shit-faced and stumbly at the series of afterparties he attended with an actual bimbo party girl, about whom he kept telling me "it was not a date!"

After he was released, I saw that had anyone care enough to put him into a cab, they could have just handed the guy one of the stack of bills in his money clip and had him safely home. That no one did, including one of my best friends who saw him shortly before he left the final thing, added to the pathos.

Yes, it was horrific. We were in a tiny room with a glass wall between us so I could fill out the paperwork. He was in stripes and some plastic sandals.

According to the very cute guy who was trying to pick me up in the waiting room outside of the jail, that was not standard operating procedure, but the ex-LMA was not a model prisoner. When I described him to my waiting room buddy, who was awaiting his ride after being sprung for dwi, he said, no the only one was this real belligerent asshole.

When the ex-LMA walked out, with his tux shirt untucked, carrying his suspenders, cufflinks, etc, they greeted each other, confirming that the ex-LMA was in fact the belligerent asshole.

Oooh. Drunk & belligerent, in jail, and bimbo party girl. Look what you've driven him to by breaking up with him!

I wouldn't have thought that, but apparently it's true -- he admitted he's been drinking a lot and doing stupid things.
