Speaking of which, Wikipedia says

Quote:

Kevin Bacon opened up a restaurant in his home town of Philadelphia, named "Bring Home the Bacon". The restaurant is filled with memorabilia of Bacon and his film roles. The outside of the restaurant is adorned with a statue of Bacon in his role in Apollo 13. The restaurant gives the customer the option to put bacon on any sandwich or salad for no extra cost....

Oddly enough, Francis Bacon opened a similar restaurant in his home town, in which you could add a screaming pope to any sandwich for no extra cost.

It sounds more like Julian should get credit for the inspiration, not Lucy.

Having a surname that appears in the dictionary is a bit of a curse. First, the kids in the schoolyard will find a clever way to use it against you, and they don't even need to rhyme it. Then, in adult life, there's always The Guy who thinks he's thought of a clever new way to say "Hey, it's __________" but what he doesn't know is that there's always a Guy. And then there are the well-meaning friends who find greeting cards and country-store knick-knacks that have a ________ on it: "Saw this and thought of you." Really? Because it has my fucking name on it? Thought I needed to see it, too, and own it, like some narcissist? Finally, you have to resist the temptation to ever use the dictionary meaning of the word -- in your business, in your home décor, on your (shudder) clothing. I have an uncle who uses our family name as one of two major themes for wall art in his living room, the other being various American Indians looking forlorn about just having their asses kicked and their land stolen and such. I blush with shame just thinking about it. As for my nuclear family, the only concession we make is a cocktail jigger that we use to make G&Ts to drown our sorrows.

BTW, kids on the playground can find clever ways to be vicious with pretty much any name.

Oh, cry me a river. You probably have a sexy last name, while mine is a popular brand of fabric softener.

It amazes me that people with ordinary, pronounceable last names would ever complain about them. Yes, I'm speaking to both of you whiners.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid. How perfect is that?

trifecta

I (finally) order a new cell phone, and would recommend that anyone thinking of doing the same go to wireless.amazon.com. I got a phone there for $.01, which is ~$100 less than my carrier was going to charge me.

Oh, double cry me a river. You both have perfectly nice last names.

I like my last name even though people routinely mispronounce it and then after hearing it correctly say "Oh, you say it just how it looks."

Well, Ms. Sensitive, aptly named I see.

I am sure I have about the most difficult to pronounce name here. I am quite pleased with it.

I'd make fun of only one person's name here, but that would get old quickly.

My wife likes our last name much more than I do, or at least how it is pronounced. She may have married me just for the name.

I'm in the same boat as Atticus on the "there always is a Guy [or a Woman]."

Real Madrid seems to be willing to pay an asshole premium for its signing targets. The Glazers must be dancing with joy over the difference this will make to the legendary and world renowned Manchester United Football Club balance sheet. Meanwhile, Rafa Benitez is wondering why the fuck this deal couldn't have gotten done last summer, or even in January.

Having known perfectly good people saddled with the surnames of Fink and Mudd, among others, I thank me lucky charms most every day.
