We scored a victory of glory and success.

Soar high up in the sky, oh, eagle of freedom,
Call up to harmony, agreement and accord!
For hero's might and strength is in the nation,
Just as the unity is nation's razing sword.

While honouring our mothers and respecting
The cream of cream of our rising nation
We welcomed all ill-starred and struck by ruin...
Our homeland, the steppe, a sacred cradle

Let the past serve bitter lesson
But ahead we face a radiant future.

Not as cool as the brisket you sent! Excellent work, Mr. Wonk. It even kept pretty well. We ate almost all of it in one sitting (with a few friends) this weekend. I think I may have reheated it a bit too long, but it was still fantastic. Thanks a million. I will make sure your jerk chicken gets sent shortly.

Get your puppy from the Humane Society -- they either do it before you get the puppy or give you a voucher for a low cost one.

Or else shop around for a cheaper vet.

It's been a long time since I used one of these:

But I'm considering it. I'll probably try to find a vet up in New Hampshire and take a drive instead.

We have the puppy. But who knows, we may get more.

Thank you. I had to trim off the fat cap so it would travel well. I feared it may be less moist than I would have wanted, but one has to make choices when mailing smoked meat products across country.

Next time you are coming to town, let me know and I'll feed you the fresh stuff.

Jackson Memorial

Granted, this was more of an "event" than your typical funeral (and with significantly better entertainment than any I've been to), but I go out of my way to avoid going to funerals. Generally I only go if there is really no way to get out of it (i.e. close family members).

Looking at the coverage, there were celebrities there that made no sense to me. The Kardashian sisters? Mickey Rooney? Did they even know him? I think Diana Ross and Elizabeth Taylor had the right idea to avoid the hoopla and remember him in private.

Did anybody really "know" Michael Jackson (aside from a few prepubescent boys, biblically)?

I love that you are so cynical. And the answer looks to be that 100% have albums out in 2009 (if that's new enough to be new).

That goes a long way to explaining what John Mayer was doing in the program. I couldn't find a Jackson connection. I wonder if the producer of the memorial is doing his concert tour.

Time has come today.

Though on second glance, it may just be 6 oz. heavy cream, 3 oz. baby oil, and 3 tbsp. Miracle Whip.

I have friends who aren't lame people who quote song lyrics, and they lurk here sometimes. I think it would be a shame if one of them was about to start posting here, but then decided not to because they thought the place wasn't friendly to people who think it lame to quote song lyrics.

yesterday I checked out of the Hotel Sacher- I always wonder where tip money should go.

based upon prior advice I left Euros for the maid.

now the doorman who opened a door for me all week? only once was it really helpful, still, do you slip him a 5?

the concierge? he didn't really do much, other that real simple stuff- "here's is where you should run." he also was the one who set up my purchase of internet connections each day BUT I find it offensive that a luxury hotel makes me buy internet, so I don't want to tip for that. Does this boil down to whether they actually got you tickets or something?

also, is all of this location dependent? like waiter tips in austria are 10%- more is excessive, so do you tip the maid more in the states than Europe?

I'm embarrassed to know this, but Kim Kardashian had her 14th birthday party at Neverland Ranch. Not sure if that means she knew him or not, but it's a connection. And no, I've actually never seen a single episode of the Kardashian's reality show.

I read something at Jezebel a few days ago that said she knew him her entire life.

They have a reality show? I wondered why they were "famous." Being on a reality show about your life sounds dreadful.

If memory serves, famous came first for Kim, thanks to hanging with Paris and, of course, having sex on tape. Which then lead to oh-so-preciuos moments on the reality show when Playboy wanted her to get naked.

I am more than a little ashamed to know this, but will say that I have only caught a few minutes here and there of Keeping Up With The Kardashians while channel surfing, and of course the ever present adds on whichever cable channel that is.

Now that the public memorial, is there hope that this will be the last day of ridiculous, incessant MJ coverage?

I find that really hard to believe. You never turn on the cable news networks? Never visit any online news sources?

2. I watched exactly 5 minutes of it. Ridiculous. Almost as silly as that nine day Reagan funeral a few years ago.

But it does underscore the need to have a will in place, at any age. I want strict instructions specifying that anyone who dares eulogize me, or sing a stitch of any goddamned weepy shit at my funeral be taken to the parking lot and beaten with blackjacks. There'll be escrow monies placed aside to cover the costs of having thugs at the ready.

It might not be so incessant, but the entertainment shows and magazines like People, US, etc. are good for another couple weeks. And there is still more "news" to come on the drugs in his system/home, control of the estate, and what Debbie Rowe might do WRT the kids.

Do you remember when Princess Diana died? I'm guessing this will be at least that much, perhaps more.

I'm set. Pine coffin, bagpipes, lots of whisky for the guests. [I'd rather be put on a raft and set on fire and pushed to sea, but don't think one can get permits for that]

Anyone have funeral plans that are interesting (or would subject you to ridicule).
