Young Bush

Great game last night. I have some observations.

1. Bush, while still incredible, took himself out of the game after making that bone-headed play. Suck it up, man. You're supposed to be the best guy on the field and you're in a funk in the biggest game of your life?

2. Matt Leinert is overrated. This observation is based on my limited exposure to him, because I really haven't seen him play that often. But, I've never seen anyone get that kind of protection and that kind of time to throw the ball in a game as big as this. He got sacked what? Once? I don't remember him being hurried. And he still should have thrown about three picks. He had a great game, no question and really put points on the board in the second half, but how good is he with a different offensive line and no Bush? How good is he against NFL rushing schemes and coverage defenses?

3. Young couldn't have been more impressive. I don't think I've seen anyone look that confident in such a huge situation in my life. Relaxed, calm, confident. A couple of times, when the line broke down and they had 2-3 guys rushing him, I thought the play was dead because he was just standing there. Then, zip! He's making moves, shedding tacklers and finding a guy downfield.

So, who do you pick number 1 now? I take Young. You get a quarterback and a running back. Houston should trade Carr for some linemen, suck it up for one more year while Young matures and then step back and watch those jersies fly off the shelves.

mostly as a rhyme for "crazy" though, right? like a rap here about a "shoplifter" would point to SS, or you for "car show" -those just aren't as common as "crazy." Or were they actually directed right at the great man?

No way I take Young over Bush. No effing way. Young is awesome, but that Bernie Kosar side arm throwing motion will never fly in the NFL. Actually, it will fly, but Bush is a once-in-a-lifetime player. Young isn't.

Do you know who LenDale White's cousin is? Do you guys disrespect the whole family?

1. Agree in part. The attempted lateral was a disaster and may have cost them the game (but man, had it worked, it would have been everyone's lead highlight). But I don't think he really took himself out. Credit the speed of the Texas defense. They keyed on him and didn't let him get outside (much). The touchdown run was still incredible. And the focus on Bush, in part, allowed LenDale to have the game he had (White, too, will be a great pro).

2. Other than the should-have-been-picks, I don't think we watched the same game. Leinert was sacked at least twice, hurried (and hit) repeatedly, and flushed out of the pocket regularly. I didn't think it was a very good game for USC's o-line. Leinert was great in the second half. Throwing strikes. He'll be a good, maybe great, pro qb.

3. Your insane. Young was awesome last night, no question. But there are still question marks as to his ability to throw at the pro level. I bet he comes back to Texas next year to get his Heisman and show the pro scouts another year of solid passing.

Great game. I still think USC is the better team, and probably wins 6-7 out of 10. But damn, Young was good last night.

I've heard Howard complain for year's about the cheap knock-offs, but have never listened to one. I suppose the show would be less-objectionable if I hadn't heard Stern.

Anybody listening to David Lee Roth or Adam Carola? How are they doing? At least on their shows there is the chance of finding their stride once they get used to doing a radio show.

With Rover, this is it. He was the show picked as being the best. Rover is in his prime.
I have tuned into David Lee Roth a few times, but not for long. It's not great, but not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Now on to Sirius.

I was given a portable sirius receiver for Xmas. Here are my thoughts on the genre:

Absent Howard, no way I would bother.

Positives:

-A million channels, with varieties such as pre-1980s metal to dirty comedy to every sports game currently on.

-No commercials FOR MUSIC CHANNELS ONLY. Surprise, the sports and talk channels are filled with garbage commercials.

-It doesn't fade out just because you are driving long distances.

Negatives:

-A million channels with very little on. The content isn't something I would buy absent Howard Stern. Forty million songs I would never want to listen to anyway. The comedy is interesting but not with kids in the car. I think any decent IPOD/Car adapter -- with its 5 days worth of songs and podcasts THAT I LIKE -- has this crap beat by a mile.

-It fades out every mile in the city. Since my car stereo doesn't have an aux input I have to play the thing through my FM radio, which SUX. The thing fades out in the city, which means you have to tune into a new channel on your radio, then a new FM channel on the Sirius.

-The unit has to be plugged in to the antenna that I had to install and to the cig lighter. Switching between my portable GPS and the Sattelite receiver is a PITA I could do without.

I am glad I sold the stock when I did.

Trade the pick for a player or pick or two. Pick Young. Trade Carr. Instantly a vastly improved Texans team. That's all I'm sayin'.

And Ollie, if Young stays, he's an idiot. No way a rushing quarterback should risk injury with another year in college. And what does he do next year to top this year? On his throwing motion, it could be a problem. But remember, he's 6'5". If it is a problem, it can be fixed.

I was just so impressed with his presence. His poise. I haven't seen such confidence since Jordan. And I'll take that every time.

You're fading in and out of coherence, but if you're asking why his name is slang, it's because "Swayze" was shorthand for "Ghost," which meant "gone" or "out." It kind of took over for "5,000."

Oh, I disagree -- I hear lots of music that I wouldn't otherwise hear. I am still pissed about them replacing "Folktown" with the more mainstream "Coffee House," but "Disorder" and "Left of Center" consistently make me happy. I also like listening to the various jazz stations for a change of pace. And I like hearing out of town football and hockey games.

Plus, having all of those dedicated traffic/weather channels rock.

I had the problem with the FM transmitter, too. I grabbed the cassette adaptor from my Sony Discman, and it works great. Of course, unless you drive a 1986 Yugo like me, you might not have a cassette player in your car.

I may get break down and get one of the non-portable receivers installed one of these days. That would eliminate the loose antenna wire running through my car, and the need for the cassette adaptor and the plug into the cigarette lighter.

I'm really conflicted. Both you and Thurgreed make some pretty compelling arguments. I think you are right that Thurgreed is being a bit tough on Bush, although it is when the pressure and spotlight are on that the great truly shine, and I am not sure that Bush did. And Young, despite some sloppy play, put in an admirable performance and, of course, really came through when Texas needed it. The stuff of champions, that. I also like Young because of the youthful connotation to his name. "Young." Something about that name evokes youth to me, or at least lack of signficant age. And "Bush" has some negative political connotations to me for reasons I cannot quite put my finger on. On the other hand, "Bush" is also a term used to refer to the pubic area of a female, which tends to remind me of some of the more passionate cunnilingus I have performed, often while having fellatio performed on me. On that basis, I would have to give the nod to Bush. I did not actually watch the game last night though. I watched Project Runway, where I think Marla totally should have been given the boot, but once again she dodged the bullet. Then I went to bed because I was exhausted.

you have XM right?

I got Sirius for Xmas- 2 stations seemed intriguing- one was College Station rock the other was supposed to be a blend of punk, indie and hip hop.

In my limited listening time (I haven't put it in the car yet) the College station rock could be the formulistic "Alt-Rock" commercial station here. The punk/indie/HH could be the commercial hip hop station here. I assume it must play other music, but what it does play was pretty mainstream- i was hoping to hear stuff I wouldn't hear otherwise.

It fades in and out in my house. They need to do some serious upgrading of the equipment. maybe fire half the Howard 100 newsteam and get some engineers on board.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't think I've ever been more impressed with a quarterback's performance in my life. The kid knows how to wait in the pocket and let the defense develop before making any moves. He's not afraid to scramble if his protection breaks down, and damn, he can move. He ran for 200 yards and passed for 270 more. Obviously, college is vastly different from the NFL, but damn. He was playing against the best team in the nation.

I went into the game prepared to be wowed by Reggie Bush, but if I were David Carr, I'd be very nervous right now.
