Impressive. Pool table? TV?

A friend among the partners (albeit a quite young one) at the old firm finally got himself the tv. Typically, he waited until after I was gone so I couldn't sit on his couch and entertain myself while not billing.

Because you seem (amazingly) sincerely unable to get it:

1. There was no logic error. I never argued that no one would raise comity arguments based on the laws of islamic nations (note, the Volokh post I linked to made the jump to "sharia" but the bit of the opinion he quoted didn't. I didn't read the rest of the opinion, so I don't know for certain whether that is accurate).

2. People raise legal arguments of varying merit all the time. That's what judges are for. See the Massachusetts case.

3. I agree with you about why the Oklahoma law is/was poor policy. It's overbroad. It's poorly drafted. And the "harm" of the potential for deference to foreign law (whether "sharia" or otherwise) where American choice of law rules dictate is vanishingly small (assuming that was the goal of the law - the text was significantly more broad as pointed out in the Volokh post Less linked to earlier), if it exists at all.

I see. So its "res ipsa not a personal attack." How kind.

What I enjoy about this is that post-Oklahoma law, of course, the argument will still be made, now combined with an argument that the Oklahoma law doesn't apply or is unconstitutional.

If the goal was to prevent the argument from being made, they should enact a law that criminalizes anyone who ever makes such an argument. They passed the wrong law!

Can someone forward this to the appropriate Oklahoma legislator, so they'll have the benefit of the highpowered legal team of Hank & GGG?

See what we can accomplish when we work together!

I am going to OKlahoma in DEcember. Is there anything I can do to help the effourt?

Oh. Economic downsizing opened up space, huh? Is everything okay?

I really wish I could FOIA your college transcripts so I could understand whether: (1) Harvard assraped you for $100,000 in tuition with no apparent return benefit; or (2) some community college did it for less.

All available evidence points to (2), but I'm trying to keep an open mind here.

Happy Thanksgiving!
