I tend to think that he's more self aware and knows he's playing a celebrity marketing game (obviously, he's had practice) but sometimes what he says, how he says it and how his supporters react are so buffoonish, I don't know.

Of course, there is no shortage of "independents" who are total whack jobs, too. My personal favorite are the folks who want absolutely every program in the world and also want to not have to pay for any of them, the people who are often referred to as "socially liberal but fiscally conservative". Total whack jobs not conversant with reality. Who are usually also self-righteously "moderate".
