Sometimes the 1st Amendment Wins

Dahlia Lithwick explains the animal cruelty video argument. Michael Vick should have just sold videos.

Of all the depraved things I have seen on tour buses, the dog fight videos were the worst. I preferred porn (non-animal-related -- sorry, Flinty), but I would rather watch Scarface for the gazillionth time, or even an occasional bum fight, than be subjected to the dog fights.

Me too! I absolutely adored the mini series (and the book.) The tv series that followed not to much. I have heard really good things about the premier.

And yes, I am a total geek, proud of it too.

What if the choise was dog fight vids or animal porn (assuming consent)?

How can you assume consent? Did the animal woof, meow, squack (whatever) yes?

Add me to the V geeks! The chick from Firefly (3rd from the right) has to be one of the aliens.

I credit it with getting me knocked up. The daily sexfest helped, too.

Now that we've nailed down the definition of "nerd" do we need to look into a new definition for "cure"?

Or, do you have new ailments 3X a week?

She looks slightly reptilian even before you pull off the rubber suit.

And only aliens would dare to come up with a human in the form of Michael J. Fox.

Since the Kanye thing, I've been thinking about the Best Video of All Time question. I think there's a plausible argument that it's "Take On Me" rather than "Thriller," because at the end of the day when the midnight hour is close at hand it's just one of several MJ dance routines expertly performed but hardly imaginitive or difficult to conceive.

I'll stick with "Cradle of Love" for Best Video Involving Girl I'd Like to Fuck, with "Wicked Game" being edged out because the song is overplayed.

I'll also stick with "Sabotage" for sheer entertainment power.

For creative direction, I would add Chemical Brothers' "Let Forever Be.". Runner up is "Fell in Love with a Girl." Both were Gondry's.

Honorable mentions in any category for Radiohead's "Just," which was absolutely perfect for what I think the band is trying to say with all of its songs, and for any music video by Sigur Rós, a band I'd never just sit and listen to, but which has developed a visual aesthetic that's pretty beautiful. "Viorar vel til loftárása" is a good example. Musically, though, they often sound like they're writing New Age soundtracks for cash, and I cannot imagine putting a Sigur Rós album on the stereo for the evening.

Anyone have additional recommendations for downloading?

I once had a massage therapist who was a practitioner of an ancient form of healing arts, which will not be specified here to avoid outability, who could communicate with her dog telepathetically. if she was involved as an interpreter I would feel comfortable assuming consent, and, if I were ever to produce animal porn, I would engage her in that role. Quality. Control. Job. 1.

Dahlia Lithwick is a courageous writer, in the sense that she doesn't even flinch when flying a metaphor straight into the fucking ground.

Ghostface's new joint, Stapleton Sex, off his just released Ghostdini cd is on my hott list for the fall.

So help me, if an anthropologist ever gets to the bottom of what is called whiffing here, there's a doctoral dissertation in it.

re: early early MTV- ABC's videos were always great. So great that I thought I loved the band until I tried listening to just the music.

there's your real test- a video you would watch every time, but it's not in any music rotation for you.

the problem is not in what is, or is not, a whiff. the problem comes in from the unlicensed practitioners who diagnose the whiff. hate the player, not the game.
