As I did not ask a question, I am not sure what I am supposed to answer.

Also, you have not said anything intelligent on the "issue." Reid chose his words poorly. As to Lott, you are right that it was probably blown out of proportion, but there was no looking past his word choice to an innocent meeting.

No one can. But it was a harmless gaffe. He was speaking about Obama from a marketing standpoint - asserting cynically that the man could sell to various audiences. Neither are Republicans just because they're Republicans. The only people who believe they are are the idiots posting at Dailykos or Democratic Underground. Serious, thoughtful people on both sides of the aisle agree that Reid's comment was terrible and stupid, but in no way racist. I have issues when people post those pictures on the FB, both because I work in an office which other people frequently walk into and because I live in a house with small children. Not because I dislike looking at chicks in bikinis. However, I am not an FB mod.

Reid was explaining why he was supporting the first black President. Lott was explaining why we'd have been better off if a segregationist had been elected President in 1948. Just the same thing, really.

as to their offensiveness, if I was her attorney, and since we can all read, and we allowed w/o deletion posts claiming president bush lied us into war and 100,000 or so people died, I would submit the deleted pictures were not as offensive as the bush lied/people died posts.
My test is whether I'm comfortable having it on my screen if someone I work with walks into my office. If I thought I was an outlier in this regard, I would lump, but my recollection is that I got complaints from other posters in at least one of those instances.

I noted earlier why the man isn't a racist. His comment's only racist if you're the close-minded sort of person who thinks any comment that notes cultural difference between races is racist. You, me, and every person alive knows Reid was discussing Obama's electability, and in doing that, politicians discuss some nasty sounding shit. But it is not racist.

What it is, however, is frightening. That a doddering old fool clueless enough to think that language is appropriate is shepherding health care "reform" through the senate underscores just how fucked the processes are down there.

Thankfully, whatever the outcome, there's a good chance this waterhead will be gone come November. His constituents are not fond of him.
