I actually knew of someone who filed a brief in the Seventh Circuit appealing a judgment by the Hon. Judge Moron. He developed the habit of having three different people manually spellcheck each piece of paper leaving his office after that little faux pas.

WHAAA? The mouth is just as distinguishable re: top/bottom. I was not discussing only below the belt. Top/bottom is really a power dynamic. Insertion of something somewhere, for people who tend to decribe themselves as one or the other, is often a display of power. For people who don't think in those terms, obviously less so.

There is at least one lawsuit over a fake posting to a cite like this involving a third rate celebrity, so it is certainly possible that this is the case here. Carafano v. Metrospash.com, Inc.

The good news, at least in the Nnth Circuit, is that services providers (defined in such a way that it would clearly include lawtalkers) are not responsible for the statements posted by their users, even if they choose to monitor and have the right to edit.

What's the difference? Same concept. Same thing.

Again, what's the difference? You said you invented and popularized it. You didn't, whether it is proper English or not.

Here's a good poll, what is the stupidest thing you have seen or heard someone say to a judge?

I was running a conference call, and on it were a variety of lawyers and a judge. We were chatting while waiting for the last attorney to join us.

The guy finally comes on the line, and we started the discussion.

We get to the part that involves when the Judge will participate. She's been quiet the whole time since the last attorney got on the line, he has no idea she's there. And he really hates this judge.

The guy says, oh so Judge SoandSo just waltzes in any old time she wants like usual right?

Dead silence.

And then I said, um, well, actualy Judge Soandso will be arriving at whenver it was. Isn't that right Judge?

Right, she said.

So she leaves the call a bit later, Attorney freaks out, why didn't you tell me she was on the call? My response, well, you put your foot in your mouth so damned fast I didn't have a chance to block it. Years later we still tease him about it. I asked him if he lost his next couple of cases before her.

hmm, maybe - there are a large number of adults into s&m who went to catholic schools. but there are also a lot of adults who grew up in conservative/fundamentalist christian environments who are really into the "spare the rod, spoil the child" thing. interestingly enough, from my observations there are very few adults who are into s&m who did not grow up in a religious environment.
