My dermatologist has his JD/MD. [non-practicing] he said his derm practice is not as lucrative as BIGLAW partners. so is plastic surgery that much more lucrative? Is it that is mainly non insurance billable? cash?

He's got to be running a high end mill, and have some great investments. No one set of hands could do enough to rake in that much. A nose job alone takes half the working day.

ETA: The associate structure in medical offices a lot like a law firm. Only instead of the merit/seniority selection process, if you're proficient and demonstrate earning potential, you can buy into partnership.

like most of our economy, it is all about tits.

my lower class high school had me and two doc grads back to talk to the science classes about careers in the sciences. early on I was kicking ass, cuz lawyers know to adjust their talk to their audience (i mean besides atticus:() and docs talk as if they're speaking to other docs, so the kids were bored, until........ one kid asked the plastic surgeon what his most frequent* operation was. "Breast implants."

then no one wanted to ask me anything. one chick even tried to get a quote right there in class.

* the kid didn't use "frequent," he asked for the "biggest." as I have repeatedly mentioned, I am from a crippled school.

We're a practical people, and a practical people know tits come and go, inevitably sag and are too damned hidden to be the prime determinant of anything. The ass is the foundation, the center of gravity. It all lives and dies on the ass.

It's a ratio thing, actually. Too much of one without enough of the other and all is for naught. Yin without yang or yang without yin.

And the ratio changes. A 40 year old woman will look odd with the ratio of a 25 year hottie who would look odd with the ratio of one of those girls Spanky chases.

Meanwhile, those breast augmentations can easily yield $5,000 a pop in profits, and they aren't even the best paid plastic surgeries. But breast surgeries are better than cataracts for sheer high volume physician profitability. And they usually destroy the ratio.

Maybe in your world. In my world, that still looks pretty damned hot. And pretty common. I know tons of women around 40 who have ratios comparable to 25 year olds.

Is 40 considered old? I'm 36 and feel I look youngish. people say late 20's like it is a huge compliment. it's a battle. working out, eating right, and not smoking or really drinking much helps. I personally DO NOT think 40 is old or saggy

Oh hell yeah. Cash practice? Not much insurance or other administrative practice overhead? If he's good, gets probably $40 to $75K a day doing four or five surgeries.

ETA: Plus he owns a "med spa," which brings in shit tons of other cash, and he's been able to do some pretty awesome marketing, which means that he can jack up his prices and make himself a sought after surgeon. His training looks to be top notch, though.

Plastic surgeons are a gossipy bunch. I'll ask a friend whether or not he's any good.

I will undertake some observation and research.

I note that one recently observed woman is closer to the 25 but has a ratio that looks older - and it still works because her face is strikingly attractive - but I am thinking of one particular 40 some odd year old skelator who really can't carry it off.

If you are observing in gyms, though, I think there can be some delay to the aging ratio.
