Can't say I agree with everything Maher has to say. He's gone off the deep end with Islam--I used to think it was an extension of his general distaste for religion, but it's not. His bullshit argument about the boy and the clock is just stupid and it's an extension of "If someone is Muslim, it's okay to assume the worst first" attitude. I don't think he started off this way (or maybe I was crediting him too much because he always says the worst about religion), but he's there now. And the clip of Reza Aslan explaining what you were saying when you and I were debating awhile back, has brought me further over to your side from where I used to be.

There is also a logical disconnect between how he addresses climate change and vaccinations. He's all about the science, and the opinion and studies of scientists when it comes to climate change and the environment, but then he completely flips over and goes with his "gut" on vaccinations and outright poo poos the science behind them. Very annoying.

But I really do enjoy watching him hammer the Republicans on their mostly bullshit arguments. In a world where we're bombarded by false equivalency at every fucking turn, it's nice to watch someone actually call bullshit on bullshit. Maybe Hank's right and I only like him because I agree with all that stuff. But there are few people who can point out a right wing argument based on garbage in such an amusing way.

I like his new show. It's not always meant to be funny. Maybe you should stick with Fallon.

Apropro of which, what are those people doing there? He posts a lot of politics, but really whomps the wingers when they appear pretty badly, so I conclude they are likely there because they're into S&M and getting a beat down turns them on.

There is one who is extra special. He's not stupid. He just can only hear what he wants to hear. So, when he's told to say he hates Planned Parenthood because taxpayers shouldn't be paying for abortions and you tell him that that's not what the government funds, he cannot hear you.

Whenever he jumps in, he thinks he's making a brilliant point, but he only reads the heaviest right wing bullshit, so he doesn't even really understand that he's getting the wrong (or edited versions of the) story. I used to try to debate him on each point, but he's become such an ass, that it's not really worth the time. And, like I said, he can't hear me and doesn't want to.

Look, it may be the circles I hang out in, but I see him on Islam seemingly 24/7 and on the other stuff not at all. He seems to have chosen it as his brand. I really can't remember seeing anything funny from him at all. For the wing-nut beat-down, Rachel Maddow is my gold standard.

OK, so I have to work at becoming as clear speaking as Aslan. Noted.

I think he was not so deep end at first. He lost his network show right after 9/11 for challenging W's "the terrorists are cowards" statement. Maher said, "they may be crazy but if you fly a plane into a builing knowing you'll die, that isn't cowardly." I kind of agree with him there; but it got him fired.

Today's Maher wouldn't seek to tweak some statement, he'd be too busy slamming Muslims generally.

Next time do it the other way around. Okra is too slimy and the jugs could be dangerous when thrown.

Where Wonk is okra isn't slimy it's deep fried. Hell they deep fry tomatoes in those parts.

I probably watch three out of four of his shows, with a finger on the remote to fast forward. Usually the fast forwarding is for one of his guests, not him, but his opinions on women, Islam, religion in general, the poor, vaccinations, and a few other topics, I could do without. But, there's a lot on his show that I agree with, or at least could be persuaded to come to a middle ground on. I generally like his New Rules, and his guests can be good. By and large, the Islam crap only comes up every now and then, so I can ignore it.

ETA: And as for okra, my favorite versions are a) my mother's gumbo, b) the fried okra at Hartz's Fried Chicken in Brenham, and c) the fried okra salad at Indika.

Under the radar but I had an audience with Pope. I mentioned how I used to try to fight the liberal dogma here but everyone called me a troll so I stopped he gave me a rosary and told me "be strong!" I take that as affirmation I should go back to exposing you all's nonsense.

I'm sure your mom's gumbo is great; also sure okra is secondary or tertiary ingredient. Okra is best battered and fried "eating your vegetables kids?" Yessir!

When the Pope and I sat down, he asked me for advice on whether or not he should see people like you or Kim Davis. I said, Frank, sir, you should sit down and meet with everyone from Fidel Castro on the left to King Salman on the right. I told him he should meet with lunatics like Kim Jong Un, pig-fuckers like Cameron, even total kooks like Davis or Chinaski. Listen to them, I said, ask them to pray for you, give them some rosaries. But for God's sake, keep the meetings with Davis or Chinaski on the down low.

Then we opened a bottle of wine from the Vatican cellar and he dished some dirt on Benedict and we had a good time.

Silly Yankee. If you throw the jugs, you spill the shine.

Is Hartz's the place where they serve family style?
