I wrote the company a what-the-fuck letter and they sent me a very defensive "Oprah approved the black doll's history" response (as if (i) she speaks for all black people or (ii) her opinion fucking means anything at all to me).

mine was ending dolls as AG started. she had one but it was before they learned to market, with the stores and catalog.

what got us was Disney Princesses. I swear for a few years there I'm sure 90% of her clothing had a Disney Princess on it. Back then they were all white. since they have made several "of color" like a native American and a Chinese and of course, my fave, Jasmine sigh.

But they still have never made a black princess, have they? as good as it is at grabbing money from parents, it seems a pretty apparent hole in their arsenal.

Perhaps, but Sebby's MO is to preface all of it with a kiss on the cheek, so it's all good.

I will resist the urge to point you to Disney's "Song of the South" and instead mention that Disney heard the dollar signs/belatedly decided to do the right thing and released "The Princess and the Frog" in 2009.

I am actually somewhat relieved that I was able to have a daughter who has grandparents for over eight years before I learned about the cruise, and am very relieved that, to my knowledge, she is unaware of this cruise. The girls in the carpool this morning spent the entire ride to theater camp poring over the latest American Girl Doll catalogue. In case you don't know what an American Girl Doll is, it is a doll that costs $100, which makes it way more special than regular dolls, which is why it is so expensive. The store at the Mall of America is devoted exclusively to these dolls and their doll paraphernalia, and you can dress up in a matching outfit with your doll and take your doll out to tea there, or take her to the hair salon, or do other things that make my brain hurt to think about. The conversation consisted of things like, "That's Elizabeth. She's English but she's going to the doll archives soon.", and "Did you know that you can get a braces set for your doll? They tell you to take care of your doll but when they pierce her ears they really just drill holes in her ears.", and "I have a look-alike doll, too, but mine is blonde because it had been a long time since my grandparents had seen me." Shortly after dropping the girls off, I realized that I might have actually just been a passive participant in a Eugene Ionesco play called "Crise de l'Age Mur." I don't know what they are teaching these kids at this theater camp, but their performance in the car was nothing short of brilliant. Anyhoo, I'm totally still an edgy rocker type dude. Really. NotBob, got any music recs for me?

Somebody I know, who is totally not me or anything, in fact I don't even really know this guy, I just said that to make it sound more authoritative--but anyway, this guy that isn't me and I don't know, he realized he had lost all semblance of his manhood when he found himself on vacation, in a packed American Girl store, with hundreds of moms and daughters, while a NFL playoff game was going on, and there was no TV anywhere that wasn't showing some AG made for TV shit movie on it. I hear he saw another sad fuck dad in the store, and silently they gave each other the nod, which roughly translated into, "Yeah, I see you lost your dick too." Or so I've heard.

Fairies don't need pixie dust to fly. They have wings. The pixie dust helps non-winged creatures fly. Duh.

Disney's UK site says: "Without the aid of pixie dust, Fairies can fly no more than a few feet."

That's stupid.

From the Disney Wiki on Tinkerbell: "As a fairy, Tink can fly and produce pixie dust, which allows others to fly."

dude. you can't tell that's a hack job? the site says "feet" but it's from the UK, hint- metric system.

In Peter Pan tinker bell can fly just fine. She needs dust to help the humans fly, until they can learn.

Confirmed. I just watched "Secret of the Wings" in which a threat to the Pixie Dust Tree imperiled the ability of all faeries to fly. (I am pleased to report that some quick thinking by Tinker Bell saved the tree.)
