Wouldn't part of Lance's issue with the mile be pacing? If he ran it alone to get that 4:51 time, and it was the first time he'd run a timed mile since (say) high school, it kind of makes sense--especially with his stated expectation of running it in 5:00. If he couldn't do it faster with a proper pacesetter, I would be surprised.
I agree. Well played playa! I believe my fastest mile was about 4:41 when I had Kenny Souza pacing me through the first mile of the first run at some duathlon in the OC. unfortunately his pace for the second and third miles was about 4:40 each and mine was more like 5:30 each.......ooops.

at this point your running posts carry the credibility of "Thurgreed is tall" posts.

walking around the Springhill Suites in Willow Grove Pa. this AM, I started wondering how "hotel maid" ever got to be such a mainstay of sex fantasies. this is not a handsome profession.

And for that matter, nurses?

the other night I was pleasantly surpised by how hot my car driver was. I couldn't see him when I got in the car, the whole ride he was talking my ear off, and then at the end he turned around, he looked like a model and my jaw dropped.

I always thought it was just "maid" -- no hotel attached.

Maybe I need to watch more porn?

Chix Soup for the College Soul

From Gawker: re:

""A reader alerted us to this delightful video of yarmulked Observer owner Jared Kushner delivering a speech at the dedication of a new Chabad building at Harvard. (For the non-Jews in the room, Chabad tries to bring non-observant Jews back into the fold, mostly with free food.) In addition to Jared's charming haute-New Jersey accent, he also delivers this gem:

"There are very few women who will cook a fresh batch of chicken soup and deliver it in the winter to a dorm room because she heard from my roommate I was sick with the flu.""

I did that for a boyfriend in college once. Only diff was that I bought the chix soup from a "homemade" soup place and it was his apartment and not a dorm. Is he trying to say this is exclusively a Jewish thing? [AoN the boyfriend was Jewish but I am not]

Am I the only one who thought that the title of this post was referring to an incident of sex, which involved 30somethings who imagine that they are still in college, with a culmination of a torrent of female ejaculate????

A bit of letdown coming in with that PoV. fwiw.

eta: ps: is "chix" as to "chicken" as "xmas" is to "Christmas"?

Shit, I thought you were talking about the Ruta De Los Conquistadores mountain biking race in Costa Rica. Hell, being behind the leaders by 2:59:36 would be an awesome time in that race.

My friend kicked some serious ass today. In his category, Friday he'd come in 38th (60 miles,10:04:42), yesterday he came in 39th (41.4 miles, 5:54:55) and today he came in 19th (75 miles, 6:06:31). Overall he did the race in 22:06:07, 29th out of 39 that finished and 116 that started it. The fastest time overall was some Columbian at 14:01. The Swiss dude that won last year came in 6th.

For those keeping track at home, I did my 9 mile long run this afternoon at 1:47. I think my half marathon goal of under 2:45 may actually be doable.

The runners were in the Starbucks post marathon all covered in the mylar heat retainer things...looking happy and exhausted.
