"the big three?"

that is a bit ungrateful to some of the others that carried an important role in the Celts dominence, isn't it?

At a minimum you need to credit the refs.

How so? Kevin McHale is getting a ring this year, too.

Breaking news

The NFL has apparently lifted the ban on Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll Part 2." I heard it twice yesterday after the Texans intercepted the Bengels. The shock of a blow out nearly made me forget that it's probably been four years since I've heard it played at a football game.

I think the "ban" was a strong suggestion. And somewhere I recall reading there's a "cover" version that probably infringes glitter's copyright it's so similar. But maybe the league just assumes people have moved on from Glitter's child porn arrest to be worried about something else?

Well, it's been years since I've heard it, and that's not for lack of going to football games. It was remarkable enough to take note of during the game.

Let me guess, copyright law confused you, so you decided to simply not take the final?

Isn't he the 6th guy on the team to get a drug-resistant staph infection in 3 years? Seems like the team needs to clean-up their facilities.

(note: Kellen Winslow was my starting tight end on my fantasy team, so I've been paying more attention to this situation than most non-Cleveland fans*. Heath Miller has been poor substitute and I look forward to a speedy resolution from all sides on this situation**.)

Kellen Winslow went out two weeks ago with a mystery ailment, and ultimately had to be hospitalized. After he got out of the hospital, he announced that he'd had a staph infection. Apparently, staph infections have been a problem for the Browns, and the organization didn't want to highlight what was wrong with him. He, on the other hand, thought the Browns treated him and his condition pretty shitty, and spoke out early last week about his infection. He said later that he was also trying to protect his teammates. The Browns got pissed and suspended him for one game for speaking out, which made the situation (in my opinion) worse. Someone at some point realized that everyone was overreacting and making the situation look really bad, so the suspension was lifted, but since Kellen Winslow didn't practice (and was recovering from a staph infection) he didn't suit up this week. Thus ensuring that RT only had 8 tight end points this week***. The current story is that the Browns and football had nothing to do with the staph infection, and Winslow is coming to practice today. And hopefully will make up for lost time in the upcoming game against Baltimore.

*I also sleep with a Cleveland fan, but I've been paying attention to this particular drama more than he has.

**I also look forward to the rapid recovery of whatever is wrong with Reggie Bush's ankle. This week killed my four week winning streak.

***Though to be fair, if he was hurt and not practicing for awhile, maybe he wouldn't have had a great game. And it's certainly not the Browns fault that LT, Brian Westbrook and Steve Smith had outstanding games against RT.

I think this fact, when spread across the entire NFL fandom, is the reason that Sports Illustrated seems to have more coverage of fantasy performance than actual games these days.

ESPN's article seems to suggest that the team told him to keep quiet, and also implied that he had some other problem/disease as well, presumably to take the media heat of the team for the recurring staph problem. The suggestion is also that Winslow would have appealed the one-game suspension (and loss of $250,000), and so the team had to backtrack and reduce it to the fine. But without your explanation as background, I couldn't follow ESPN's story at all.

Yep. And it's a weird sort of sickness when I get upset that none of the five Texan touchdowns were caught by Andre Johnson, because he's my starting wide receiver. This is the first year I've ever had a fantasy team, so it's the first time I've ever noticed this stuff.

I will say, though, that I am much more of a fan of the defensive side of the game, and it's very hard for fantasy teams to individually account for defense than offense. It irritates me greatly that so much more ink is dedicated these days to offensive individual accomplishments than defensive.

Speaking of Houston receivers, what was the dance one of your guys did after a long scoring reception? It looked like he was acting as if he had stepped in "something"--did they let you take your dogs on the field before the game? Or am I just not hip to the latest dance moves?

Dunno. The receiving TDs were at the other end of the field. My side got the punt return and rushing TD. Dunta Robinson got a 15 yard "excessive celebration" penalty after his INT for his dance, and I think that Mario did a dance after the forced fumble.

Another reason I no longer watch football. The only thing interesting about the game is the celebrations.

As a former fan, I feel that watching the game is sort of like watching people do yard work for 3 1/2 hours. Flag falls, flag gets picked up. Repeat.

Nor was I. My internuts exposure coupled with my redecoration of my corner office (added a Ducksiana murphy bed) has greately expanded my skirt scoring in 2008. As far as I am concrned it remains an expansive bull market!

IIRC, Hank thought some posts were the equivalent of finger-spelling the word "water" into another poster's palm while immersing the person's other hand into -- wait for it -- water. I gather this means that Hank prefers expository writing that is more oblique than saying what is unarguably true, as you and I are wont to do.

I'll leave the two of you to your opinions, and simply say that I notice you both are prone to criticize others' posts instead of continually evaluating how you might improve your own writing, as some of us do.

IMHO, this lack of self-evaluation is the number one reason RT now has three openings to fill on the A-list. No offense.

I don't know how Game 5 is going to turn out, and I'm not staying up to find out. But it struck me as very dodgy that they played the top of the 6th in those conditions, and seemingly the powers of MLB were rewarded by the one scenario that could bail them out--Tampa tying it up.

Squirrels keep eating our pumpkins, and I don't know how to stop them. I tried the bitter spray you can buy at petstores, but it hasn't worked. I pegged one with a baseball, but I'm pretty sure he's been back, and if not then his cohorts have moved in. What to do?

They used to eat all of the birdseed at my parent's house. They had to buy a special anti-squirrel birdfeeder to stop it.

Dave Winfield. It's the little known reason Steinbrenner had it in for Winfield. George loves seagulls.

Did they quickly learn there's no such thing? My mom has been buying those for years, and finally realized it wasn't worth it and it was better to be entertained by watching the squirrels figure out new ways to get at the feed.

It doesn't work perfectly, but it slows them down. I think they have the one with the cone-shaped roof over it, which makes it difficult to climb down to access.

These are midwestern squirrels we're talking about. Unsophisticated country bumpkin squirrels.

ETA: the real challenge is getting rid of the geese on the shore of the river in their back yard. Those fuckers shit everywhere. And they're mean. One chased after my 3-year old nephew. Of course, we thought it was hilarious...before we realized he was really scared.

Then we thought it was even funnier.
