There are things I like about facebook. There are things I don't. It is not possible to not pay attention to the things you don't like. You can't not read something. Yes, you can put everyone on ignore who's ever posted something pointless. But, just like me, they don't always do that. There are some who do it too much. They get ignored. There are others who do it every once in awhile (or a little too often). They should be informed that what they do is stupid and annoying to almost everyone besides Not Bob and those of us who can selectively ignore stuff (like you).

Seriously -- first you bitch that some people are just seeking attention, and now you bitch that you are incapable of not paying those people attention?

Skip the fucking posts. It's not hard to tell if a post is one of those "lamenting someone who died 8 years ago" deals, and not hard to skip them.

There are lots of people I like who post stuff on Facebook that I find generally insipid. It's not hard to ignore -- although, I see from your post that this somehow makes me "special." But I'm not as special as you -- the arbiter of all things stupid and not stupid on Facebook.

If it bothers you so much, and you feel that these mysterious people need to be told that they are stupid -- go ahead and tell them. When you see someone lamenting the death of a friend, respond that "this is really a stupid post." Obviously you have the balls to do that -- right?

As I was suggesting, it's pretty easy to figure out, from the first line of a ten-line post, that my Aunt Petunia is posting one of her romantic song lyrics again.

Did you just call me Coltrane? 11-24-2009 02:36 PM

That's why I said "wasn't", instead of "isn't". It can be anything you want it to be, Bob!

I didn't know bejeweled was on Facebook. Everyone on my friends list seems to be doing Farmville and some equally pointless game.

I majorly suck at games like bejeweled. Always have. Always will.

I saw a little "hide" button to the right of a friend's Farmville post & when I clicked on it, it hid all the rest of them as well (but not the regular posts by that friend). I was very happy because it was getting beyond too much.

I'm going to try it again the next time my Facebook friends start sending around hugs and smiles and angels, etc.

Yeah. Which is one of the most annoying things about Portland. Local this beer, local that wine, local this zucchini, local this toy. It's like having season tickets to the Raiders just because one is from Oakland, even though their owner is an asshole and insults you as a fan, the team sucks ass, the players don't care and are just collecting a huge paycheck with your money, and the team and front-office are staffed by cretins, criminals and tools.

You rant as if that Portland zucchini has been up your ass for 20 years.

i did deps in Portland, at what I believe is considered the firm there. in the coffee room they had cans from Seattle's Best, Starbucks, Caribou, and 1 or 2 others. Like, the partners are all so special they couldn't agree on one fucking brand? how do these people date? can you imagine trying to decide where to go to eat, or what movie to see?

You should tie God into this post somehow.

I do not know how to respond to this. If I have noticed that someone's update is "lamenting someone who died 8 years ago," then I've already noticed and read the update.

As for your first sentence, it's so stupid that I don't understand how you managed to make your fingers (who would surely have come up with something better on their own) write it. First I bitch about people seeking attention and then I bitch because I have read what they wrote and have determined, after reading it, that they just wanted some attention. Same fucking thing, dumbass.

How the fuck do you know something is insipid unless you've read it? That's the point. Yes, I can and do skip long updates once I've noticed they are ridiculous. But isn't that the point of the complaint? Why post long or short insipid updates in the first place?

Now you're being a little bitch. I am not claiming to be an arbiter of all things anywhere. I am pointing out something that is annoying to me. Either disagree or don't. I don't give a shit. But don't post some silly shit about how easy it is to ignore something that is impossible to ignore.

And now you've gone off the deep end. This isn't about balls, although it's nice of you to think about the size of mine. The point isn't to hurt someone by attacking them over their dead friend. It's a simple observation about something I think is stupid. I asked a question about why it made any sense at all and Not Bob was the only one to offer up a response. I disagree with his response. That's it. Don't come jumping in at the last minute like you have something valuable to offer us all when you're really not saying shit.

If I'd known you were here, I could have hand-delivered the cd I've been promising for the last few years...
