This is the game engaged. He’d no choice but to play. I thought his play was crazy. My misperception explains a lot about why he’s at the top of the political mountain and I’m here arguing with you. That or he just got lucky. One never knows.

My criticism of him? That he's a lying jackass with an injudicious temperament and a history of treating people poorly. Does there need to be more?

But I was talking about the Republican Senators who voted for him instead of finding another conservative to put on the Court.

No one with a chance of sitting on the Court will say in public, I am going to repeal Roe, because then they won't get nominated because there are other candidates who haven't said it.

Kavanaugh has said things that should reasonably lead you to expect that he will vote to overturn Roe, should he have that opportunity. And now that Roberts and not Kennedy is the fifth vote, you should expect the Court to have that opportunity. If you would like to read some Twitter accounts of law professors who have said useful things about these subjects, DM me and I will point you to them.

And Senators. And my post was directed to why Republicans chose to put a mediocrity like Kavanaugh on the Court instead of another conservative.

I'm obligated to work against it.
I don't really care today about how the allegations of sexual harassment and attempted rape made you sympathize with Kavanaugh more. On another day, perhaps, but not today. But enough with this "obligated" crap, like it isn't your own choice to sympathize with an asshole like Kavanaugh when he is accused of treating other people poorly.

Those are no inapt comparisons, by the way. Nor are they insulting. That people feel very emotional about this issue does not license them to throw logic out the window.
You are exactly correct on this, which is why it is no surprise to see you condemning K for getting confirmed by indignantly complaining that he had been victimized by the Clintons and lying that he had never been to high-school parties instead of dispassionately talking about what he actually did in that bedroom to a younger girl.

Quote:

He sat on it. He knew about it earlier. Tried to time it as a surprise in the hopes it would not give Trump enough time to float a replacement and get a vote before the election, after which point he'd attempt to block nominees a la Garland. He could've taken Kavanaugh out early.
Unless you know that Schumer was the one who leaked Dr. Blasey Ford's complaint, which you don't, then you should be quiet about this.

Suppose that you're a Senator, and you get Dr. Blasey Ford's complaint, and she asks you to keep it confidential. Do you tell the world anyway, and wreck her life?

Quote:

I'm not blaming the Democrats. But who needs to say the GOP is responsible for putting Kavanaugh on the Court? We already all know that. They nominated the guy! All I was offering was an answer to that seemingly ageless question, "How'd the Democrats manage to lose something it looked like they were winning?"
They were never winning. McConnell was always going to be able to find a conservative who could get 51 votes. It was a Kobayashi Maru situation, and no one is James T. Kirk.

Hey, I posted this:

and Sebby's reaction was to defend it. When Republicans appeal to deluded mob thinking, it's politics as usually, but when Democrats do it, it's a moral panic that obligates him to take sides.

I believe Carolyn Shapiro was posting a few weeks ago about a speech he gave at NYU about a decade ago. Since you are a law professor, have your research assistants find it. Also, Orin Kerr has been good recently about what kinds of cases will go to the Court now that the swing vote has changed.

So you still simply repeat what blogs tell you to repeat? The biggest lie I ever created was Ty@50's claim that he grew intellectually into his own thoughtful person. sad.

I was telling you how to find the source material. If you're going to pretend to be an academic, you need to pretend to understand stuff like that.

so you think i'll post my real name so everyone can see i was an adjunct prof of law? I am an adjunct, real world experience, not some academic. I won't fall for your reindeer games.

Hey! Voice of civility, what the fuck with you letting Ty get away with ignoring that I am/was a law professor?

Still waiting for you to tell us what your research assistants found.

BTW, I was a law professor too, until I gave it up. Also, I was associated with the consul general of Finland, who got to wear an awesome sash to parties.

Hank, you know that you’re an academic. And you know that I know that you’re an academic. Ty’s just jealous.

But if he calls you bad names, the King of the Nicey-Nice will remind him of the tone we expect from posters here in our little home.

If we're comparing academic credentials here, I believe I'm the only one who has taught at a top medical school.

Science, bitches.
