Can I buy stock in riots?

I'm not sure who Burris is but I find lawyers who tell families that criminal prosecutions are about their personal retribution to be beyond annoying. Especially when it is calculated get a bigger civil settlement at the expense of civil unrest.

John Burris is a big-time civil rights lawyer who's the go-to on police brutality cases. He had Rodney King's civil case, and he represents Grant's family here. So, yeah.

God forbid he tell them that convictions of cops for conduct in the line of duty are quite rare and that the jury's finding of criminal wrong doing is a good result even if they wold have preferred more.

ETA: I appear to be wrong. Because of the enhancement for using a firearm, probation is not possible and his sentence will be either 5-14 years or 4-12 (I have heard conflicting reports).

The two of you come off like you're rooting for riots.

the near riots should be from Eastern Conference people who have pre bought season tickets. my old ticket lady called me today to let me know the prices for next year have been lowered! can you imagine trying to sell Cav tickets or Nets tix today?

Hard to imagine at any time, but I know what you mean.

I never really gave much of a shit about LeBron and less about this whole circus, but the thing that's staying with me is what a dick he's made himself look like (nicely crystallized in that ESPN article TM put up). How far up your own ass do you have to be that this stunt sounded like a good idea?

How odd to have no vuvuzelas in the background.

Were there any vuvuzelas during the LeNuff show?

My boyfriend is from Cleveland, and as a result, he's gone through a lot of sprots heartache. But aside from the Art Modell departure with the Browns, none of it was premeditated. Art Modell couldn't come back to Cleveland with the Ravens played the Browns because of the death threats.

The MLS all star game vs Man U is here at the end of the month. Sadly, vuvuzelas have been banned from Reliant Stadium.

In other news, Paul the Octopus pretty decisively picked Spain.

I am shocked that some ESPN columnists are now bashing him for the spectacle. I thought they'd be too close to criticize since they basically helped him set it up.

Exactly. Plus, Oscar Grant's family -- particularly his daughter -- is better off long term with a verdict that keeps BART and its insurance company on the hook for damages. A murder conviction might have allowed the BART Board of Directors to vote not to indemnify Mehserle for damages awarded against him personally. My guess is they're actually quite pleased with this outcome but they can't say so.

Clevelanders love the Browns 1000 times more than the Cavs (even with LeBron). It's a football town. I think when this cools over Modell will still be the most hated person in Cleveland.

Awesome. Finally, an appropriate use for vuvuzelas.
