I have a few takeaways:

1. I agree with Lambert that black women shouldn't be used as props. But it's hard to make that argument to a young white girl whose entire cultural focus is black men consistently using them as props. Shit, it's pretty clear she just wants to be down.

2. Miley is only doing what Madonna and Lady Gaga, etc. do. She just used to be (like 5 minutes ago) a sweet, young, nice, acceptable pop icon for all the little white daughters of the people who are so angry (and daughter of Billy Ray, for God's sake!).

3. Her ass looked terrible in those shorts and if you're gonna twerk, you should probably have some ass.

4. People should be way more angry with the misogyny in Thicke's song that their kids all know by heart, than Miley simulating sex like a methed up stripper.

ETA: By the way, I am obviously fully aware of my hypocrisy, although I like to think that I celebrate women and their wonderful bodies (through my daily reductive/objectification posts) as opposed to encouraging violence towards them.

Oh I get the Chinese part, just not the fun-loving Japanese part. And for the record, ask any number of musician/actors about their experiences with Japanese customs.

We now have data for the over/under "how long after blaming cunnilingus on the missus for your mouth cancer before divorce papers fly."

Egad.

Well, at least I can still count on Thurgreed when I have questions about popular culture, the zeitgeist, etc.

True enough. I am a better resource for less popular culture. I have heard of the attention-starved Disney vixen, but cannot imagine there is some great philosophical pop culture lesson to be learned from her. If I'm going to go that route, I'd rather delve into the downward spiral of Lohan. That one seems like she could be some dirty fun.

My sister's bouncing technique was reviewed (and found lacking) by Big Freeda herself in an off hours club next to the Last Concert Cafe two years ago. It's a lot harder than it looks.

So maybe I asked this here before, in which case I regret repeating myself.

A few years ago I rented a house in Japan, and it had an awesome keyless entry system. There was no external lock on the front door at all. On the wall next to the door, there was a simple metal plate covering a plain screen. When you lifted the plate, an electronic (image of a) keypad would appear, always in a different place (so that you couldn't look at fingerprints to figure out what the combination was). When you entered the right code, the door would unlock, and you could slide it open. One neat thing about this system is that the rental agency could give us a code that would work for a week, but not thereafter.

I want to install one of these in my house, but I can't find it, on- or off-line. Anyone have any suggestions?

A friend has something similar here in Houston. She gave us access to her house to feed the cat a few months ago and it was pretty awesome. I'll ask her where she got it.

People don't understand what the word means. And I think most people think of feminists as women with long leg hair who hate men and are loud and bitchy. It's ridiculous.

Agreed. It's a shame how that word seems to scare, well, feminists. (Easy for a straight white dude/member is good standing of The Patriarchy to say.) We need more Ashleys:
