Again, the only solution is tivo. Thanks to it, I don't know a single thing about any US athlete, particularly their Crohn's disease-ridden moms, favorite pets, tribulations in high school, and other schmaltz.
It makes the whole thing go much faster too. The 45 minute diving coverage last night was reduced to a 10, tops. I watched a little bit of real time coverage on Wednesday night, and it was killing me that I couldn't just skip the commercials. I ended up *gasp* leaving the TV and going to a bar instead. It's a shock, I know...

All my "unprepared for a college class" nightmares are about papers due tomorrow that I haven't done anything for yet. I don't know if that because they are ultimately more stressful, or because you can't blow off an exam- unless you're a real fuckup.

How about Clockwork Orange? Kubrick's certainly got claim to best sci-fi director.

Or, for movies with humor, Sleeper or Dr. Strangelove.

Old Classics: Metropolis. Journey to the Center of the Earth. The Invisible Man.
I'll throw in a few. Each is a terrific science Fiction movie, though for different reasons:

"Solaris", both the original and the Soderberg versions

"The Terminator"

"The Matrix" (but only the first one)

"Logan's Run"

So you've never had the signed-up-for-a-course-but-didn't-realize-it-until-the-day-of-the-final dream? that's my most common. sometimes with the and-now-you-can't-find-the-room-for-the-test kicker.

This is mine too. French, or some kind of impossibly difficult higher math.

It occurs in both college and high school settings.

I've had this dream so many times that I have the sense that it must have really happened to me.

It was a joke some time ago. Yesterday's game was just a tease. The rest of the world is lucky that we exported 1980s basketball, not 2004 NBA-style ball.
Yup. We've forgotten how to play. Good thing the rest of the world has finally reminded us. Reminded us that isolation, dunks, one-on-one and selfishness sucks; and that finesse, speed and creativity are what makes the game exciting. I hope we learn from this.

A bit of the old ultra-violence, Alex?

How about The Fifth Element? Cool visuals and special effects, very cool costumes, and Mila Jovovich kicks ass.

Hasn't it been replaced by the "where are the closing docs, since we're closing at midnight" or "the court is waiting for you to present your oral argument; why are you in Houston, not New Orleans" dreams?

Well, and sometimes I just get attacked by these:

I hear you on that. But handing in a paper made up of mostly bullshit, big font and large margins gave me much less stress than going into a final unprepared. No wiggle room.

Maybe the "real life" part controls the dream content. I had a project paper that I ignored until way too late. It was a project to design a machine to do something, and my paper as finished was completely factually flawed on its face. Still, handed it in smiling and got a 2.0. This is probably still the basis for my nightmares.

On the other hand, the ability to knowingly hand incorrectly reasoned papers to authority figures did help me over a lot of bumps when learning litigation.

I like Blade Runner. I think it's a hell of a film. But the best? I'm not sure... I think maybe Aliens was the best sci-fi film ever made. But I'm not a scientist.
Terminator, though Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Aliens and The Matrix get nods. I love the story, I love the struggle, I love the interaction with the characters, and the effects for a low 1984 budget weren't that bad.

Forgot about that one: I liked it quite a bit.

That is why I prefered papers to exams. Targeted subject matter that was much narrower, and all I had to do was construct an argument. I could look up most of the stuff that I didn't know.

I was plagued with MBE dreams when I took the Texas bar.
