(I mean, jeez, coltrane, sometimes your bullshit/fact ratio is breathtaking.)
Sebby is my mentor.

But you can't deny that many innocent Iraqis died for your so called "liberation". Are those people better off or worse? Would they have died but for our invasion? It's not an easy cost/benefit analysis.

Wouldn't think of denying it. Loads of Germans - probably innocent Germans - died as we moved towards Dachau, too. Shoiuld we have stayed away?

And how about the blacks in the South who couldn't vote or were being lynched? They should have just moved? Your understanding of how federalism works in the context of consitutional rights is completely fucked. Get a new argument. The "if you don't like it, move" one doesn't work.
Well, I guess if they stopped making new "constitutional rights" out of thin air, we wouldn't have this particular discussion then, would we?

Yeah, like Brown v. Board of Education. That one sucked. Why didn't those uppity niggras move to someplace that would take their kind?

As horrifying a thought as this is, I agree with Slave.

I'm actually coming around to your side. The lives that ceased to exist via terrorist attacks are worth more than those non-insurgent lives extinguished from US attacks on Iraq soil.

Hey! They didn't go and expand the due process clause in Kelo, and I heard no applause from you.

To put it another way, the "educational attainment" element, as measured for that study (snapshot at the time of the abortion) seems automatically skewed (a) to include many more young & stupid and non-sexually active people in the lower attainment brackets and (b) to include many more older & wiser, married and sexually active people in the higher brackets.

I had the same thoughts on this, but I still it still argues against my statement. In any event, my underlying point is that we, as people, are animals and are always going to have sex. A very small portion of us will be able to reign in our instincts and act responsibly. The remainder will not, no matter how much birth control and education we provide.

Et tu, Taco Bell.

I wouldn't consider it hyperbole given that those very arguments were made. John Davis, representing the Board argued that it was a states rights case. Brown went against established precedent, and many accused the SC of making rights up out of thin air. In private, they would ask why the blacks couldn't just move (usually to Africa rather than Massachussetts). Still do in some (very Red) places.

I guess, if you think responsibility is an either/or rather than a sliding scale. I happen to think that a lot of people are sorta responsible, if it isn't made too difficult and you remind them. So providing easy-access birth control and education will change the behavior of a lot of them. We are agreed that pretty much nothing will keep people from screwing.

I'd also note that, even if people think they are behaving responsibly (using birth control), if they haven't been taught how to use it correctly they will still get knocked up. I've read somewhere that about 1/2 of unplanned pregnancies are due to birth control failure, not non-use.

Yes, I imagine that lament can be heard daily at Senator's Byrd in West Virginia.

And from Terri Schiavo's grave, Vince Foster's suicide note, Hillary's thighs, Bill's cigar, and TK's car. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Did I forget anything?
