Very pre-2008. Colostomybag is the new "douchebag". See the memo.

We have each had wilder pasts and taken big risks. Now that we're older, no random piece is that important.

Unless I am in a relationship (or have a monogamous designated hitter), I would rather skip sex than be with someone I don't know or trust. I also get tested before I get involved with a new partner as do they.

Sexy.

That sounds like a lot of work. After I achieved my life-long goal of a private office bathroom w/ bidet, I have made it a policy to avoid rules, process and structure in my life. I am an adherent of randomness, although for those times when I do find myself at a fork in the road I rock-paper-scissors with myself to decide.

It's probably better in these circumstances to say "lack of interest." "Disinterest" only refers to financial interest -- e.g., "disinterested directors." If you are uninterested in the game of golf, or lack interest in it, that means you have no interest in it, financial or otherwise.

Hmmmm, while I appreciate the constructive criticism, and freely admit that I ain't no grammarian, Websters has the definition as disinterestedness, lack of interest, indifference, which meaning is what my use of the term "disinterest" as an abstract noun was intended to convey. No?

That is closer to victimless than many crimes. Setting apart the effects on your faith in humanity, that is.

Again, though -- the problem is differentiating.

Dammit. Once again, I appear to be behind the times. My apologies, but fuck. This sucks.

Q: What is the current status of "disinterested"? MSN's online dictionary, Encarta, defines disinterested as both “impartial” and “not interested.” Is the second definition now acceptable? The incorrect use of "disinterested" is a long-time pet peeve of mine, but maybe I require an attitude adjustment.

A: This whole issue is a tangled mess. "Disinterested" once meant "not interested," back in the 17th century. This sense became outmoded in the 18th century, when "disinterested" was taken to mean "impartial" or "objective." That was a handy thing, because then we had a distinction between "disinterested" and "uninterested" (not interested). But in the 20th century, people again started using "disinterested" to mean "not interested" and the tendency shows no indication of disappearing.

The fact is that many educated people—probably most—still cling to the old distinction. The latest dictionaries point out the difference of opinion, the tangled history, and tend to endorse both meanings of "disinterested," with No.1 being "impartial" and No. 2 being "uninterested."

What all this means to me is that the word "disinterested" has become useless, since two reasonable people can mean different things by it. Too bad.
I'm just going to go huddle with my 20 cats for a while and brood about this. Get off my lawn.

One of "MythBusters"'s many contributions to human knowledge was the discovery that a human male's stream of urine breaks into, in a very short distance, small droplets unable to conduct a current. To recreate the myth, Adam had to basically stand inches from the electric fence. Which is to say that the artist's recreation of your death is likely wrong, but in case it's not please remember to leave your house and corner office unlocked in time for my arrival on December 3, 2018.
