More Advice

Is a 9 year old old enough to go to a concert?

We're thinking about taking the whole family to Santana. Too many clouds of smoke to explain?

We'd be on the lawn.

I am considering a Mini for several reasons, not the least of which is parking in San Francisco. Does anyone have one? Thoughts? In particular, I am curious about reliability.

I am getting one this week to replace my 10-year-old Audi. So I can't speak to reliability, but all my friends who have them LOVE them. I am very impatient for the car with my name on it to get from the ship in Oxnard to the dealership.

Probably depends on your feelings about clouds of smoke around the nine year old. Santana shows that I've been to tend to be pretty mellow, not too loud, not too crazy. And if it's outside, the smoke isn't going to be as pervasive as it would be indoors. You can always move to another part of the hill if the hippies reliving the Santana set at Woodstock get too high. They tend to be a fairly harmless bunch, though. I can't imagine that you'll need them up on the hill, but you might want to bring along a set of earplugs in case it gets too loud for the little ones.

My dad took me to see Harry Chapin perform at The Mall (not the mall) in Albany when I was 8-10. I was fairly oblivious to any sort of adult-type shenanigans going on around me. So much so that the bass player's comment that The Egg (not an egg) looked like a giant clam coming out of the Hudson River did not strike me as something that would only be said by someone who was incredibly high.* I had a wonderful time.

Is it a cross of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensimilla?

Manual. Apparently Mini has the highest % of manuals of any new car sold in the US. 35%-ish.

Wow. You mean The Egg is not a giant clam coming out of the Hudson?

It may be that the 9 year old will be sufficiently oblivious and I should worry more about the older ones. But I'm just glad they want to go to a concert with their dad.

Hot Tuna at the egg next weekend.

Have you done any of the iPhone reset techniques?

I was just about to suggest something like this. I have a BlackBerry (and not an iPhone) and every now and then it requires the smartphone equivalent of a cold boot, which I've found can only be accomplished by powering off, pulling out the chip and then putting it back, and then turning the phone back on.

Hank, it shouldn't change any settings. Maybe you should do a back up before you try resetting if you're worried about losing data.

How often do you sync with your computer? Because it should back it up every time you do. As sparkle says, do it again before a reset. (I'm not sure exactly what gets lost, since I haven't tried it. I'm sure google can provide an answer).

Indeed. A data rich environment.
