If you can afford Exeter or Choate and the kid gets in, it's a leg up on getting into a fancy University later. Other than that, I struggle to find a justification for the expense.

(I guess it's a way to ensure your high schooler gets a better quality of drugs to experiment with before college. And maybe she'll get to meet a few people with really nice vacation houses she can visit on holidays. But that can probably be bought much more cheaply at a decent local private day school.)

Calling a thing what it is is so... unromantic. Pedaling it as natural, inevitable market theory revolution in dating is preferable. And everybody benefits!

Instead of observing that there are people who pay for and sell sex, and people who have sex with each other for free, both of which are fine among consenting adults (or should be, if we were an even close-to-mature society), we can blur the distinctions further... We can call it market innovation, and confuse everybody about where the lines between "John" and "gold-digger" and "significant other" lie.

There are two reasons, as I see it.

1. You want to constantly mention that your child attends Exeter to as many people as possible.

2. You want your kids to have douchebag Exeter friends who will serve as a permanent douche-network, ensuring your child's success for the rest of his life.

2. Agreed, and this is an error on the parents' part. That network doesn't hold very tightly, so far as this non-network person has observed. Nobody I know who went to those places is leapfrogging based on HS connections. College, being more immediate during one's initial job search, is more important.
