this is empowering!

in my college Frank Shorter owned a running shoe store. I have no idea why. anyhoo, every year there was the East Lansing State Bank/Frank Shorter 10K. Frank would fly in and run it.

I only saw him breifly when I snuck up towards the front, out of my proper time area, and before the race started. By the time I'd finished I'm pretty sure he was on a plane:rolleyes:

over the years I've said "I ran in the Frank Shorter 10 K." But until now I never thought of claiming "I raced against Frank Shorter back in college."

thanks for the example.

Is this a vote in my favor for "Most Helpful"? It would mean a lot coming from you.

Not "most helpful," but enough to become my protege. With your wit you could really hit the top if you just see what I could teach vis-a-vis people skills.

What an ass. Like everyone I have suspicions about Lance, but Landis won one stage in the Tour, held the yellow for four days or so, and got busted. Lance has won 18 stages and had the yellow for 80+ days, and hasn't. Landis should be embarrassed for using such pathetic masking agents if nothing else.

While I agree that Landis' bullshite is bullshite, I call bullshite. anyone who has been anywhere near pro cycling in the years Lance won the tour knows that most, if not all, of the peloton was doping. That lance didn't get caught was a testament to the effourts of the maskers to preserve his brand.

he'll never come clean and I don't blame him, but anyone who suffers the delusion that he was any cleaner than Landis, or Virenque or Patani et al, is delusional.

Other than Mark Allen, I raced against all of the pros in Tri in the 90s. no offence. Frank Shorter was pre-my time. no offence.

to get asked to race against an olympic gold medal winner in a real sport is a pretty rare experience. You shouldn't beat yourself up.

As best as I can tell, it was my TeamStokerBar allegiance, where, first I put the smack down on Tinley at the original IronTour, and then my teammate T, put the moves on Julie Moss.

Otoh, he may have taken me at BudLight Lake George in 92.....those early days were a blur.....:o:(:)

I agree. Everyone in cycling dopes and anyone who follows cycling knows it. why anyone cares I don't know. let it be. Dope or no dope they can kick all the pussy arses of the sportswriters and other commentators and haters, so, Boo. Yah.

In November and December, do you hang out near department store Santas so you can tell the children that the ma in the red suit is an alcoholic guy who lives at the Y?

I literally lined up against the 1998 Australian national champ in the 5k the one time they seeded me so I was in the elite corral. God knows why. He beat me by over 6 minutes. In an 8k.

Back in the day when there was no seeding/corralling at the Chi Marathon, I lined up at the front, with the pros and hung off at the back of the lead women through 6ish. That strategy did not work out so good for me in the long run......:(

I once ran off the front at Duathlon and hung with Kenny Souza through the first transition....but I probably could have gone "b" level pro in that sport.....:)

All of the yalies (law) I know are quite polite. With one exception, completely impractical and lacking in common sense. And the exception only really expresses itself in barely masked contempt for that portion of the world who is slower than him. He was always nice to me though.

I know two people who went to medical school there. When you left their house, they would write out directions to the freeway with scaled, color coded maps.

If you can't do that in New Haven, you aren't likely to make it through your first year. One wrong turn . . .
