Or so one would think from reading the BBC website.

Particularly if you happen past a mirror in the act. But embrace the Low, I say. For without it, how would one know the High? There's no true appreciation of those family moments in Starbucks, after buying a Christmas tree and hearing Nat King Cole croon "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire..," without the recollection that nine short hours ago you were engaged in self-love of a sort usually reserved for the living-under-a-bridge-and-perpetually-crippled-on-Thunderbird set.

Why the hell are you walking around when you're drunk and jerking off? And don't say, "To find a mirror."

Those Brits sure have a knack for engineering their own disappointments.

Can we please clear this up? I was exceedingly nice in my assessment. I said nothing insulting. I was honest by avoiding being overly descriptive. And I defy anyone who has met the woman (or who has seen a photo) to deny this.

She thought I was going to compliment her, got pissed off when I didn't and went on the attack (during which she flat-out lied about me hitting on her or some shit). At that point, I saw no reason to continue trying to avoid hurting her feelings.

I think they'll get pretty far, to be honest. They have a great coach in Capello and a solid if unspectacular team with a quality spine in Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard and Terry (assuming all of them are fit). Their draw has been very kind, ourselves excluded, because It Is Written In The Stars that we will pump them (before losing to Algeria and Slovenia and crashing out). But they will not win it. They will lose on penalties in the final, when Dida saves from the weakest penalty Wayne Rooney has ever taken.

P.S. - Abba, get a restraining order.

You can wear what you want, because you should be beaten on sight and on general principles by anyone and everyone who can get a shot in before the police break it up.

Exactly. If they had reasonable expectations, the fans might be pleased with the result. As it is, anything other than a blowout win in the final will be disappointing.

I'll revise the subset -- those unrealistic enough to request an assessment of looks from TM* in anticipation of being Deemed Attractive and getting pissed off when such assessment was not forthcoming. Better?

*The main group was "Those Deemed Not Attractive by TM"

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I know I what I need to do. It is just that the execution is very difficult. But you are all right. Totally fucking right. Wish me luck. I'm getting together with some girlfriends tonight while he watches my baby girl. I need to have a come to Jesus with him since he assumes I will be all excited that he "wants me back" again.

Good luck. I really hope everything turns out for the best for you and your daughter. Be strong.

ABBA, I don't like giving advice unless asked to, and I don't know you, but I know you will do the right thing for you and your daughter. But in your meeting with your ex, I would take some precautions. I would try to do it in a public place, though not on stage where he feels put on trial. I would not get angry or yell or attempt to vent, I would try to remain calm, yet determined and decisive about your decision, and not let him try to make it an emotional or heated situation. It's just business, and your mind is made up. In a perfect world, there would be other people looking out for your safety nearby. This may seem overly cautious, but I don't know who this guy is or what he's capable of. Better safe than sorry. Good luck.

In one of the few sincere things I have ever said on this board, I wish you luck. Please don't hate fuck him.

Be strong! Don't let him manipulate you. Good luck! And as PLF says, don't fuck (hate or otherwise) him.
