I don't think society frowns on peeing in the woods. Especially if you're a runner. Shitting on the road is a different story.

when I wrote "pee" that was an euphemism.

It doesn't happen THAT often, does it? In all of my races, I've never had to stop to go 2. Even in the 1/2 Ironman, which took me over 5 hours.

Couldn't tell ya. My only exposure to long distance running is from reading this board, and the discussions lead me to suspect that Clydesdale-style bags are required accessories for the serious athlete.

Mini Redux

So, lawtalking sorts, I want to hear your opinions on my latest conundrum. The car I have been waiting for has been delayed. It arrived in lovely Oxnard, CA on 7/13. The estimated dates for it to arrive at the dealership were 7/17-19. As this week has gone on without word of delivery, I've had a bad feeling. Plus my patience level is hovering around 0-5%. Anyway, today we finally heard about what was going on. Apparently there is some blemish/imperfection/smear (??), well, we really don't know exactly what, but something wrong with the paint of the driver's side door. The size of a pencil eraser, according to the dealership folks. So the port wouldn't release the car. So it has to get this "body work" done that apparently involves sanding down the imperfection (and I would guess at least reapplying the sealer paint, but Mr. Man says they aren't repainting). ETA is now sometime mid-week next week.

My question is would you take the car? I don't have my heart set on this particular Mini, but we are getting a good deal on it and the dealership traded for it so they are interested in us taking it obviously.* Apparently the defect is small enough that it would not have to be disclosed to purchasers (this is coming from the dealership -- they say flaws that are fixed that are less than an inch do not have to be disclosed for new cars), so if we saw the car sitting on the lot, we never would know that something like this happened. I'm not trying to be unreasonable, but part of me is (possibly unreasonably) thinking "why should I take a car that has already had body work done??" Mr. Man seems to think that he'd be okay with it if this were his car, in part because we are leasing and in part because this is not a disclosable issue. What say you?

*Assume there are other cars that would meet my criteria for a car but the wait time to get them will be 3-6 weeks. I don't know this is true, but seems about right from the discussions we've had to date with Mini dealers and the availability of their cars.

I think there have been rare occasions when a top guy has done it, but not very often.

And I'd be thrilled to be 40 minutes behind those guys. But I'm not.

I have shat in the woods off trails in, among other places, Torres Del Paine and Machu Picchu. Unusual diet, plus heavy drinking, makes for urgent, yet unprdeictable, calls of nature. Always carry tissue.

Mr. Man is wise. But more important is your own ability not to worry about this kind of thing once you have the car. If the odds of you sitting in your driveway each morning and fuming, size of a pencil eraser, my ass exceed, oh, forty percent, then it's time to wait for the next available.

why would we elevate the comfort of our beasts of burden over our own well being?

Same thing happened to me today but on an Irish hillside covered in sheep droppings and no vegitation taller than 12 inches. I probably did an extra couple of miles just to find a spot out of view of others.

I wouldn't take it. that is the point of leasing or getting new flawless new car smell perfection.

But I also cursed out my dealership and forced them assume responsbility for 10K of electronics board replacement free due to their negligence and oversight. that they tried to pawn off into customer pay. They courtesied that. :)

So I would call them up and freak out until they gave me a new car same deal. due to their idiocy.
