It's Time

"While I thought the moment was a horrible reflection of our fans, how the hell would they know what actually happened? It probably looked like the umps just called him out."
If you're going to make shit up to sound righteous, do a better job of it. It was a horrible moment. I can see why they were upset. Not a justification.

And the everybody does it thing is lame too. It's true to a degree, but Yankees fans, followed closely by Boston fans, are head and shoulders worse than any place else, at least for baseball (football is a different story - there it's Philly and Oakland, with yes, unfortunately, Baltimore trailing somewhat in third but still above the rest of the pack - but violence is just as unacceptable).

Whatever. You're trying to read justifications into everything I write. Your stance is: It should never happen. No shit. Again, everyone knows this. You are adding nothing to the conversation. If you can't get past that, then what's the point in having the conversation? What exactly is your point other than the completely obvious (to everyone on the face of the Earth)?
Once we have agreed that it is unacceptable in all circumstances, the question is, why does it happen? Well, it seems to happen in places where fans are very passionate about their teams. It seems to happen in those places when fans think their team is getting screwed. Why did they think they were getting screwed last night? Because the call made no sense without watching the replay and it was a huge game and is a huge series. Yankees fans aren't the worst because a few idiots in the crowd threw baseballs on the field. Yankees fans are the worst because they are, by and large, arrogant because our team wins so much.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying that all Yankees fans (or even most) suck. I'm just saying that there seems to be a certain large number that just can't quite seem to get it's just a game.

Agreed. And again, this is a given. And it is a given in many, many cities (countries, whatever).
