Or, famously, speed.

A friend's dad, who has ALS, was published in the LA Times today. I read this a few weeks ago when she put it up on her facebook page and it really got to me. I can't say I disagree with any of the conclusions he's reached and I think he's incredibly courageous to say it to the world:

Foxes Running the Henhouse

Two local sex crime prosecutors here take their work seriously:

Quote:

"Gressett's 30-year-old accuser, a prosecutor from another unit, says she wanted to sleep with him and undressed before objecting to the type of sex he initiated. He pressed on, she told police, sodomizing her, holding a gun to her head, handcuffing her and jamming ice into her before making threats.

"I remember crying and begging him to stop," she told police, according to a transcript of one of her interviews.

Gressett says the sex was kinky but mutual - that a gun, cuffs and ice were brought out but only in a playful way. Not only did his partner not object, he told his office during a personnel probe, but she mocked the small size of the handgun. She stopped him on the way back out of his townhouse, he said, and gave him oral sex.

Michael Vick

Perhaps to get peoples' minds off the whole Favre deal, there is a rumor floating around that Michael Vick could be playing for the Vikings.

Uff da.

I would like to knw why it is being reported everywhere that he was "reinstated" by the Commissioner, when it seems more accurate to say that he has been indefinitely suspended, subject to reinstatement by week 6 (and the opportunity to play in two preseason games).

Because previously he was just indefinitely suspended. Now it's changed.

I don't get it--if he's going to be reinstated, why hamstring him by allowing him not to play two preseason games or the first 4 games of the regular season? That's not a way to "transition" back to the NFL. That's a way to screw him over in terms of value to a team. If he has talent like he did, he will be a starting QB. But what team wants its starting QB not to play until week 5 or 6? And with Vick you have to set up a somewhat different playbook, both because he's lefty and because his style is not the typical drop-back QB.

If the NFL wants to continue to send a message, fine, suspend him for the rest of the season. But to do it this way seems like a screwover without any real purpose that no one benefits from.

agree. has there been any logic given for the 4 game suspension, or is it just left as random?

I think it was the best deal that Tony Dungy could negotiate for Vick. Had there been anyone else going to bat for Vick, I think the NFL would have told them to fuck off. But apparently Tony Dungy has been working with Vick for a few months now and swears up and down that Vick will be a model QB.

What do you mean you don't get it? Seems like you get it just fine. Goodell doesn't want him in the league and he knows no team will sign him based on the fact that he won't be the starting quarterback for what may be 6 weeks. Hell, he can only play 2 preseason games. No team is going to sign him under those conditions.

Except maybe one that is considering an aging primadonna QB with an iffy arm and thinks they might need someone younger and healthier later in the season. Hence the (local) rumors about the Vikes.

Vick is an awful lot like Tavaris though. A more dramatic runner, certainly, but both questionable passers.

And now that Favre (allegedly) will stay retired, you're stuck with two quarterbacks who you just finished telling they weren't as good as a washed-up, selfish, 40-yr old asshole who just had surgery on his arm. You can start thanking Brett now.

walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

Living where I do, I can't much bitch about weather, aside from the long stretches of gray drizzle. But goddam 106 in this town is hot. Esp. without air conditioning, which a large chunk of us don't have.

And no, no matter what the motherfucking Lovin' Spoonful (hi NotBob!) told you, it's not a different world at night. 96 outside, 86 in (assuming you don't venture into the furnace that is my bedroom, upstairs). C'mon C'mon and dance all night, my ass.

On a positive note, gin & tonics taste especially good. And, with the family away at the beach, I can post nekkid (I mean I could; you know, if I wanted to).

I don't have it, and when we got home from hiding out at a friend's with AC, it was 87 on the first floor. No thermometers upstairs, but I'd bet on at least an additional 5 degrees per floor. No way I'm hitting the third floor until at least 10 pm, and even then it's doubtful.

The good news is our AC-having friends are leaving town tomorrow after dinner, and gave me their house key.

Nice. I could drive 15 minutes or so and steal my parents AC (they, wisely, are at the coast with Mrs. Ramone and the youngins). But they would probably end up bitching about my impact on their electricity bill. So I'll hang out here with the gin and tonics and the less than family friendly Pandora mix. And I'll sleep in the basement (stupid old dog insisted on sleeping upstairs last night; dogs, esp. mine, not so smart).

Down to 94 out, 84 in.

Like I need the encouragement. But will do!

I'm close to equilibrium; 89 out, 85 in. Feeling all white trash-ish, rolling around shirtless and all. Not pantless, yet (as far as you know, anyway). Do I lose white trash cred for eating a salad for dinner (w/ grilled Oregon tuna, no less)? And the shitty glass on the Portuguese white went and cracked when I opened the bottle, too.

It's warm enough that internet porn bores me. Perhaps I should be concerned...

Here it is nigh on 1 am (I should be in bed! It'll be too hot for napping tomorrow), and it is now finally cooler out (82) than in (84). Too bad I can't close my eyes and wish myself to the weekend, when it will be back to normal summertime temps (mid-80s by day, 60 at night). Of course, after an extended heat wave, it will take a while for the house to fully cool down at night. It may be Monday before we sleep comfortably.

Damn. Pretty exciting, though. Typically Buehrle: didn't really care about the consecutive retired batters record and was really pissed about losing the game.
