One of the weirder side effects of living in a predominately gay-friendly region is that there are certain unattached people of a certain age that have never been married or otherwise paired and seem to have no dating life whatsoever. The conventional wisdom in the past was that they were secretly gay, NTTAWWT, but that has grown increasingly implausible in a time and place where being gay is not a detriment, and in fact would be actively celebrated if part of one's public life.

One wonders whether we have misdiagnosed generations of bachelor uncles and spinster aunts as gay and repressed.

I'm not asexual. I just haven't had any good offers lately.

Oops, I wrote the above before seeing Thurgreed's response. Apparently, for some, the fact that you are more of an ass IRL makes you all the more compelling.

i used to get confused with your "oops" posts, because I'd think that a moderator should be aware of the edit function. then I realize it was a conversational gambit....

anyhoo, I always like to hang around real assholes because then i feel better about myself.

I need a car

I asked this a while ago, and got some helpful responses, but w/o the search function, cannot find the discussion.

Anyway, I need a car with three-row seating that is not a minivan. Some Buick got good reviews with Consumer Reports, but ... a BUICK?!? Family-man Tiger Woods notwithstanding, a BUICK!?

I have the Volvo XC90, which I don't want to buy again. It's the right size, but too many blind spots, goes through tires like e/o goes through boyfriends, and at higher mileages, the transmission goes.

A few weeks ago, people pooh-poohed the Audi Q7 and the BMW X5, so what else is there?

I'm not surprised you're repping The Italics. I assume The Footnotes gave you a broad waiver?

The Ford Flex has been getting some favorable press.

I have an almost 8 year old Acura MDX that has been very reliable. It has a collapsible 3rd row, but the seats back there don't have much leg room, so they're only good for young kids.

I am not sure how the fact that I edited my post to add the second paragraph betrays a lack of awareness of the edit function.

My parents have the Acura MDX and love it. Then again, they have arguments over whether a particular shade of beige was "too beigey," so YMMV.

I like the X5. It handles well and feels very stable and it has all of the conveniences you need in a relatively compact suv.

Edited to add: the original thread started here.

Thanks -- that was the thread from a few weeks ago, but there was another discussion a while back that I figured would be hopeless to try to find.

Thanks for all the suggestions, all y'all.

You have the 20 volume set? I'm envious.

Christmas present a couple years ago. Referred to as "the big dictionary" by the 5-yo (also by the giver of the set).
