 | I'm not saying it's the right or wrong way to be. A man is free to delude himself in whatever manner he desires. But reality will remain what it is. Human nature will remain what it is.

How you conclude that logically, accurately assessing a situation makes me self-absorbed I can't understand. You hew to notions of what you think things ought to be, and can be. You hold out hope they're better than what the data suggests. I just look at the shit and describe what I see.

FWIW, though it's irrelevant but you asked, IRL, I am not self-absorbed. I am actually quite pleasant, and generous, and more honest than I ought to be. I'm just not fool enough to think those are qualities we should expect from most people. Particularly politicians. And I think when assessing how one should vote, in a broken system, in a deeply flawed society, there is no sensible choice but to be self-serving. The only question is whether to look long or short term. To vote for Romney to keep as much as one can in the short term, in the belief its best to get what you can now because who knows what tomorrow may bring, is credible. To vote for Obama in the belief it will be better for the economy, and by extension, you, over the long term is an equally credible position. To vote for either out of fear of outlying idiots like Todd Akin, or because you think one has a "socialist agenda," is to be ludicrous. |
