I may be misremembering, but I believe Coltrane hypothesized that, if all the white people become swarthy, soccer will become a game simply involving guys taking dives. Won't hurt me, but I thought you were starting to get into the game.

I'll assume everyone's read about Julianne Hough's blackface costume embarrassment.

I only have one question. What exactly is going through someone's head when they're doing this? Every year, without fail, some star goes to a party dressed in Nazi regalia, or blackface, and people freak out, and there's an apology. Don't these people have handlers? Or at least one or two friends with brains? Isn't someone looking at them before they leave and saying, "Yeah, uh-- The Al Jolson thing? Not going to be popular. Nope. Nope. Not going to be understood as satire. No. Not up for debate... Look in the mirror. Now imagine that image in the Post... Right. Yep. It'll be that bad. In fact, it'll probably be worse.

Ty had no chauffeur. He did all the driving. He was an assistant for a blind, suicidal, ex-military man who lived near campus. And he was lucky to have the job. Turns out Ty was going to be expelled for some prank he played on the headmaster. But then the military fellow gave this amazing, rousing speech at Ty's disciplinary trial, and everybody agreed that anybody friends with a blind guy in a bespoke three piece suit who could command a room with such authority was a credit to the school and should remain a student.
