Go Astros!
Though Petey did fine once he was warmed up. Olerud was seeing 88, 89 MPH warm up fast balls then BAM 96.

This is one of the funniest things you've ever written. Golf clap.

I hope you're wrong about that -- that dude rocks. My son calls him "the Gare Bear" (if you watch SpongeBob -- that may make sense to you.)

My poor little guy -- he was on the verge of tears this morning when he found out the Yankees lost. He recovered quickly though. I've had to school him on "why life isn't fair" and "he'd better be damned thankful it isn't, because he's a whole lot luckier than most of the kids in the world" themes lately. One of the few phrases his baby brother knows is "it's not fair!!", which is usually accompanied by a dramatic face plant to the floor and much wailing and gnashing of teeth. It's just not right.

etfc -- damn typos!

Oh how unfair and unbearable it must be to be a Yankees fan. I feel for you and your fellow supporters (and your children).

My team hasn't seen a World Series since 1959. And they lost.

but you've got one of the best parks around to watch the Cubs lose. In the end its all about enjoying the game, and Wrigley is always fun. We have a terrible team, plus they closed our great old park for some modern eyesore. As dtb said to her son, you should be thankful for what you do have.

My team has never been to a World Series. Until two weeks ago, my team had never won any series in postseason play.

The curse of Black Sox, which, if ever there is a deserved curse, is the one.

[note to Hank. There are two bands of lovable losers in Chi-town. Well, at least one that's lovable]

I'm pretty sure you did this intentionally, but I'm a White Sox fan, not a Cubs fan. So, no great park, shitty neighborhood and irrelevance.

I loved Tiger Stadium.

They tore down Comiskey too.

This fucking embarrassement is going to lead to the biggest purging the Yankees have ever seen. Anyone not named Jeter, Rivera or A-Rod (since no one will take him) will be fair game.

If I'm Steinbrenner, [if he's unable to void his contract b/c of the wall incident], I trade Brown to the worst team in baseball - like the Expos or Royals - even if only for a ham sandwich. That fucking prick cost us the entire Series with his dog outings in Games 4 and 7.

Mel Stottlemeyr is gone. Brian Cashman is gonna be the new GM of the Washington Expos.

I even think the Torre era may be over as he may be encouraged to "walk" If Donnie doesnt get "reassigned" - maybe he becomes manager.

Lofton, Clark, Quantrill, Heredia, Loiza - all gone (some unfairly)

Vasquez will probably be traded. Giambi too, if he ever plays again.

Sheffield will probably retire.

This will be the ugliest bloodletting the Yankees have ever seen.
They had a great season, and won the division. It's a team that certainly could have done it, and it's going to be hard, even with Steinbrenner's dough, to build another as good. Especially given the impatience of Yankees fans for surviving through "rebuilding" years. And especially if you're keeping A-Rod, who will set a prima donna tone for any team he is on.

And, if you're done with Torre, I'd hope the Red Sox would take him.

Or the Mets. It would be great to see Torre back with the Mets.

As to Brown. Yummmm. Ham Sandwich.

Go 'Stroes.

Potato Salad for all if they win.

I didn't know the White sox had sucked that long. That's really screwed up, not only all that suffering, but no one realizes it outside Chicago. Sorry.

Please. Don't waste my time. Are we really going to talk about sports teams and agony and dispair? Are we really going to go there?

I thought this reaction was exactly dtb's point when she told her son that he should be thankful life isn't fair -- i.e., that he is so much better off than you, for reasons (I am sure) that go beyond his team affiliation.

As I appear to be the lone resident Cards fan, I have to say I don't know how I can concentrate today. Should be a great game tonight...

As much as I am long overdue to see my boys in the Series again (17 years is a long time by Cards standards), it would be supremely entertaining to see the Red Sox face the prodigal son in Clemens to win it all.

Hopefully the Cards bats and the home crowd will overcome the Houston pitching advantage (Lidge is OUR daddy right now), but if there's some consolation I do like potato salad.

I'd make a similar offer but you just can't get good Ted Drewe's frozen custard or toasted ravs in Chicago...
