What are you talking about? (Read me saying this in a whiny, bored tone).

I just read some crap about some guy angry about a regulation re: dishwashing liquid. I'm not about to read his actual post because, frankly, it doesn't seem all that amusing.

On the Hank Hill thing, make up your mind. Am I an out of touch elitist lace curtain Irish Republican or am I a crazy rube? Not that they're necessarily incompatible... But, as far as generalizations go, they're not exactly complimentary either.

I don't think I have ever said that about you.

I wouldn't say that either. The Hank Hill thing is actually quite specific, as I always associate the episode in which he revolts against the low flow toilet with you. I'm not entirely sure why.

Why does the world still hate us now that the evil W is gone?

Fair enough, but I do have one question.

Where did you get your taste in television?

There's a distinction b/t "out of touch elitist lace curtain Republican" and crazy AND b/t Irish and rube? I'm not seeing it.

Because we teased them with a taste of the wealth that capitalism could bring, and then pulled the rug out from under them?

ETA: I think these protesters are of the same ilk that have been interrupting G7 and World Bank meetings for years--it's an opportunity to pitch their case to important world leaders.

Granted, it was done to a shitty guy, so I don't feel too bad, but that doesn't undo the fact that this thing smells. And this shit happens all the time (God only knows how many defendants without Ted Stevens' profile and resources never learn about the misconduct in their prosecutions). The bottom line is our adversarial system doesn't work. It doesn't work for the poor who can't afford to bring out all the stops in their defenses, incentivizes selective prosecutions, forces prosecutors to go balls to the wall on cases that ought to be settled due to the ambitions of those above them and it gives the taxpayer convictions worth about 1/10th of the value of the money spent on them. We need to overhaul it, systemically.

Overhaul it to what? Can you think of any system that doesn't result in career-minded people putting their own interests -- or, usually, what they misunderstand as their own interests -- ahead of doing their job properly and ethically?

I'm sorry that you're upset that Holder isn't as quick to condemn this, or decide what to do about it, as you are. I prefer his approach, and I think your kind of "fuck em, they are bad" approach is a big part of what gets us into problems like this in the first place. Not so long ago, people were making the same kind of rant that you are making, except against Stevens rather than Holder.

You ever notice how, when you take a big dump, the bathroom still smells for awhile even after you've flushed?

2 re: the protestors. These are the same sort of people who were marching outside both the R and D conventions (though when they did the former, Slave characterized them as mainstream Democrats)

The "cleaning my gun" part should have been a dead giveaway. Slave.

These assholes destroyed Seattle in 1999: a city that was friendly to them while they had a relatively friendly administration in power here. After they got the taste for violence, they've been cutting a path of broken glass and used bandanas across the world every time any economic summit happens.

My guess is that you were born closer to (B), but part of you kind of wanted to be (A) so you worked hard to get closer to (A) while resenting and despising both the people who were (A) and the people who strove for (A) and the people who were (B) and the people who didn't strive to escape (B) -- including yourself in that mix somewheres most of the time anyhow -- which wasn't real healthy so you finally wised up and checked out of that race somewhat but still do some law sometimes.

Which leaves you a mix of (A) and (B) and (C) -- kinda like a Black & Tan.
