Tweek!

I am happier. Though I sometimes wonder - will I ever be truly happy? Will I find the fulfillment that I seek? Will my family and friends be there for me if and when I really need them?

Oh, wait, you were only asking about your avatar? That is much improved.

Calling All Degenerates (hi e/o!)

Listen, I know you're busy at work. I know that you're bogged down in this profession, and free time is scarce. I know that you probably have social relationships to maintain with the significant other, family and friends. I know that there isn't enough time in the day to get to the little things, like down time. I also know that you are a degenerate gambler, and moreover, would love to beat your fellow imaginary friends in a not-so-friendly round of Hold em. So who's in? Aren't you sick of seeing celebrities play bad poker on TV? Wouldn't you rather play bad poker yourself and get mocked by ncs or e/o, assuming e/o can pry the pc from the OM's hands?

So I repeat, who's in? Name your time.

Again, I am still sans [non-work] computer. So me (and my superior player alter ego) will not be around to take your fake money.

What the hell, Slave? Do I have to box up an old computer and send it to you? I can't believe that you don't have a computer at home, that's just crazy talk. I refuse to believe it. I will instead believe that you fear losing to old Flinty at the tables...I'm just unpredictable and shit (read: a bad player).

Oh well.

high card
pair
two pair
three of a kind
straight
flush
full house
straight flush*
four of a kind*
royal flush (A,K, Q, J, 10 suited)

* actually I'm not clear at the moment on which of these beats the other. Suffice it to say you are unlikely to get either one. Though I did get a straight flush when I was playing with some friends on Saturday night. Very cool.

A straight flush beats four of a kind. A royal flush is just the highest straight flush, it is not in a separate category. In a game without wilds, like standard Hold em, a straight flush is the highest hand possible. I guess with a wild, five of a kind is the highest, but I'm not even sure about that. Slave? Str8?

And Fringey, your play money is mine, all mine.....mwhuhuhahaha.

It probably is. I haven't played poker since I was a kid. My dad taught me. He had some really nice poker chips -- that no doubt was a big part of the appeal. In any event, I had to have a cheat card then too. So, a flush is all the same suit but not in order, and a full house is a pair and three of a kind (e.g. 2-2-3-3-3), right?

Yes, that's correct, very good. I guess it's telling how old I'm getting if I reveal that I got nice poker chips this year...no more flimsy plastic chips for this aging degenerate.

No, no, my dad got them when he was much younger than you -- I think he got them at around 45. Don't feel old.

You will all be relieved to know that at long last I have my home computer back up and running with firewall and anti-virus working (it only took about 5 weeks and 3 re-formats). I reinstalled true poker last night and I'm ready to play. Anyone interested in setting up a game? Maybe this Sunday night?

Truepoker's system requirements limit OS choice to Windows, unfortunately. ( See http://www.truepoker.com/getting_started.html )

As for Linux, you can run Windows binaries if you install WINE ( See http://www.winehq.com/ ), which allows Windows APIs to be run on various types of *nix.

Sounds like I am out. We no longer have any windows machines -- the OM transformed his dell laptop to linux and we already knew that it doesn't run on osx.

Enjoy the game.

I guess it depends if we have enough folks or not. With e/o out and flinty otherwise occupied, I'm not sure if we should try now or just wait for a better time for people. Thoughts?

If we have enough people, I would suggest 8 or 9 CST.

I'm game, but I will be trying to play from dial-up, and I have no idea as to how well that will work.

I'm in. Technologically I'm all set. I don't really know how to play, but I'm sure I can do better than that moron from that stupid band did on Celebrity Poker.

And aV -- dial up? How can you live that way? Do you have indoor plumbing?

anyone who wants to play just needs to go to truepoker.com and download the software (and sign up for a username) in advance. if you have cable modem/dsl, the download should take 15 minutes or less. dial-up obviously is slower.

I'll call it for 8:30 p.m. CST on Sunday, on the Maxim play for fun server (there are three servers there, so make sure you are on the right one...). I'll set up a table when I get there. Hope people can make it!

Excellent. I will be there hopefully to witness the carnage. I have now patterned my play after that guy from Creed, mixed with a little whininess from Willie Garson. That Celebrity Poker series was full of horrible play. But in any event, I still get to see ncs in her red velvet dress...Yippee!

I'll start playing again once I'm able to re-up my cable modem back in my new apartment. Think March.

I'll try to get on (for once), but 8:30's actually kind of early for this Midwesterner...

Aren't the Golden Globes on tonight? Always entertaining because the stars get loaded during the ceremony...

What a racket that is, though. Get some 90 or so foreign reporters, buy some nice trophies, get it on TV, and people will suddenly care what those 90 or so foreign reporters think...

Harrah's is going to or already has bought the Horseshoe, and will reopen sometime, rumors are that the WSOP will still be held, but in April or so. Will I see you and Mr. Man there at the satellite tournaments?
