(BTW, I listened to Cobain's meltdown doing the acoustic "Where Did You Sleep last Night" on MTV Unplugged the other day. That still sends shivers down my spine. You can feel the man's soul aching to exit him in that final scream.)

For GOAT on blues, you have to consider Howlin' Wolf. And of course Willie Dixon (genius songwriter).

The closest thing you get to a meaningful distinction between a lot of old blues and a lot of old country is that the old blues musicians were black and the old country musicians were white, but before you go applying that distinction anywhere you have to go to a Rhiannon Giddens concert and hear her show you why doesn't really work and is more a function of the way country got packaged as a genre later on, targeting white folks. The bleaching of country music, and why Jazz didn't get bleached in the same way, is a fascinating topic. CBGB & OMFUGs got it.

Rhiannon Giddens, anyway, is a goddess and may well be the right one to give G.O.A.T. status to.

I'm worried.

It's clear that facts and logic are on the Dem's side in these hearings.

But the Republicans are talking louder and faster and repeat their points more, regardless of facts and logic.

Honestly, what are you worried about? Trump not being removed for office for the many high crimes and misdemeanors he's committed? The Republican Party ceding our government to obvious Russian influence? The ending of one Party's respect for the rule of law, our three branch system of government, and the Constitution itself? The abandonment of Democracy when such abandonment benefits the Republican Party? The destruction of any type of standard for lifetime federal court appointments? I can go on and on. But I need you to be more specific about what you're worried about.

Sure I worry about all of that stuff, but, really, isn't the biggest worry that while the Democrats are all pretty good, none of them are perfect? Maybe we need a third party candidate.

Dude, Trump trails Bernie among the latest poll of registered voters. He’s only beating Pete by 4 points. https://thehill.com/homenews/campaig...-neck-matchups

Maybe you give Bernie the VP slot and Warren the Treasury Secretary post in exchange for them getting behind Joe?

I know it sounds nuts, but the punnet square here keeps requiring some place for Bernie and Liz.

This time four years ago, Trump was polling at 31%. Of course, we all know that Republicans are wired to circle the wagons and support the party, while Democrats are fractious and impossible to unify. Thinking that you can square that circle by picking the right two Democrats (or in Bernie's case, a Democrat and Bernie) is a fool's errand. It's so attractive because it's doomed to fail. One of these Democrats is going to turn out to be good at being other Democrats' second choice, and is going to consolidate support.

This article is solid except where it tries to force the argument the Ds must present themselves as moderate to win.

I grew up listening to Johnny Cash, but am kind of partial to Leadbelly as the G.O.A.T.

What's wrong with classical music?
"Catrin" sings with MTT and the SF Symphony, and I have had, at several points in my [really] weird life, season tix to the Met Opera, the NY Phil, and the SF Opera. We currently have 2 different subscriptions to the SF Symphony - one to attend together and the other so I can see her sing.

So, to genuinely and honestly answer your question, nothing. I don't think of "classical" genre in the same way.

If I did, then I withdraw Cash. Richard Wagner is the G.O.A.T. The overture to Tannhauser is the greatest piece of music ever written, and anyone can disagree, but they'd be fucking wrong.

SN(Great Gates of Kiev is my ringtone - yes, that's Mussorgsky, not Wagner, whatever)M

"Republicans" (1) don't usually answer the phone and (2) lie about party preference lest we be Doxxed to hell.

That said, I did recently answer the phone, thinking it was an amazon delivery. I told them I wanted to ban all guns, vote for Warren, and abort all children up to 6 years old.

Trump is "under-polling" (not a word, but you get it), by 8-15%

PS - let's grab lunch or drinks soon when you are up North. - K

When I get a call from a pollster, I tell them that I'm a member of the Peter Pinguid Society, so I guess we cancel out, although these days the valence of that reference doesn't quite work.

Emailed you yesterday -- you may have emailed me back -- I've spent my few spare minutes watching Fiona Hill "destroy" (hi, Sebby).
