A few years later, my sister got pet insurance for her Dobie. The bastards didn't cover a thing. Not the Wobbler's. Not the von Willibrands. Not the time she tangled with a buck and got slashed with an antler. Not the meds for the congestive heart failure.

For the next pup, I will read the fine print carefully.

Cherry eye problem? We're about to shell out for that.

We really need to give up on the idea of Adder cutting loose. He needs to come to the states, order up a russian bride, and settle down to a life of drudgery and cuckolding.

It is his destiny.

the russians scare me for Adder, too many of them are angling for a simple jumping off spot to get the citizenship then she'll split. Worse case her actual husband may come with, and rob and kill Adder w/o even getting him a hand job. No, I think the board needs Adder married off for keeps so we can move on to other issues.

my BIL got a bride from the Philippines. I think that's where he needs to go. my BIL was a train wreck and she stayed and gave him a kid- and objectively adder has more going for him than the BIL so he should land safely.

the guy had a catalog and picked out a few possibilities. then he got a letter and a handful of photos. one of the photos had this on the back- "See my smile? I'm smiling because I want to marry you." this was "hello" and she was there already. Adder can handle picking out a face in the catalog w/o fucking that up, right?

best part, her name was "Mary Tiempo," which, translated loosly means "Happy Time." so here also, I bet Adder can get laid,

Complete mystery. It's driving her eye doctor nuts.

One day her third lid looked funny so I took her up to Angell. Her corneal pressure was sky high. No other symptoms (no fever, blood work normal, etc) but after 10 days of intensive meds (steroids, anti-biotics, pain meds, etc) and expensive tests (no cancer, no parasites, etc), the eye was getting worse so it was removed. Even the post-op pathology on the eye didn't reveal the cause.

Sounds tough. Hopefully a happy dog now.

Cherry eye wasn't that big of a deal. It was wrapped in with the puppy's spaying, so I'm not sure exactly how much it cost, but the total was under $600. We went with removal rather than trying to pop it back in.

Going to the dogs

Since we are on the topic of dogs, I've got a question.

Fugee Mom lives on the farm with her two dogs. One is an elderly golden retriever and the other is a 6 yo miniature schnauzer. I don't think the golden is going to make it through the winter and my sister and I have been talking about what kind of dog she should get next. It will be an adult shelter dog but she doesn't want another big dog like the golden.

Any recommendations for a medium to smallish (but not a little yappy dog) with an easy going temperament that would make a nice second companion dog for a still active senior? If there is a dog with the temperament of a golden but in a smaller package, that would be ideal.

I don't have the full story, but it appears that Target is giving substantial money to an anti-gay Minnesota gubanatorial candidate. True? True, with explanation?

Cool. Did you keep it? Is it in a jar on the mantle looking at her?

I really like the series on Animal Planet Dogs 101, which goes through all the different breeds of dogs out there and gives a basic run down of the characteristics of the breed. It's usually a five or so minute clip about the breed generally, and then they focus for a little while on a particular dog and it's owner. On the website, they just put in the general stuff. I thought the puli, lab, and corgi (the pooches I'm most familiar with) videos were pretty dead on. The series hasn't covered all of the dog breeds out there, but it could be a good start for ya'll to take a look at.

Obviously, each dog is going to differ slightly, but there are generalizations that can be made. A lot of medium sized dogs are in the herding group, and they probably aren't what you're looking for (Aussies, Border Collies) because they're quite active and will need to run around a lot. She might want to look at some of the medium sized spaniels, which can have that sort of temperament without being so big. Some of the working group may also work out.

especially is you are picking an adult you can find small labs or goldens. but I'd go with a mutt. pure breeds are to much trouble. i mean read all these stories about eye surgery etc. momdoesn't need that shit.

Never. IMHO, you're highly entertaining, and for a dude that is wound tighter than a three day clock, lots of fun. I mean that from the bottom of my cold black heart.
