Finally, if you want to be a defense attorney at all, a few months out of each year should be spent as a public defender. Mandatory.
So you can learn to wing cases on minimal preparation?

I would think that both prosecutors and defense attys would do well to have public defending imposed on them.

I would give money.

Are property values so horrible, maybe they just can't afford to move, or maybe lots of them work in construction?
Oh! Oh! I know the answer to this one!

It is because everyone loves the benevolent Princess Shayla, who lives in the town with the Power Rangers and is kind to all.

Princess Shayla is my friend. Okay, okay, the actress who played Princess Shayla is my friend. Details. She is also quite a fan of the Texas Hold'em. And she won a bad beat jackpot, as previously discussed here.

This is my str8-esque submission for the day.

Oh, I agree a prosecutor should be forced to work both sides of the aisle. That would have a good effect on the douchebags who view prosecution as a "mission" and think all criminals should be worked over with jumper cables and blackjacks.

But the suggestion that PD work would make defense lawyers better at what they do doesn't hold much water. The best defense lawyers I saw were ex-prosecutors. Guys from the PD's offices could work a courtroom, but the complicated cases that involved complicated pre-trial motions and complex issue were beyond them. PDs are overworked and too often forced to wing a large part of their cases. If I were in the can and needed a ringer, I'd get myself an ex-AUSA.

Um, I would prefer to have lunch not in the gaping gash. If possible. She may attend, though.

I wouldn't think PD work would make defense lawyers better. Mandatory PD work might raise the quality of defense of the people who have PDs, though.
