Lost in the sauce is the fact that I can only get one sock to work on my phone.

He has basically said that in the past when rejecting venue change motions, which are difficult to win based on Minnesota state court precedent. He’s got twelve jurors already and it seemed unlikely he would even delay the proceedings given how that could adversely affect the jury pool. It seems like the right decision even with the civil trial settlement, but the questionable timing of the settlement and the City not being able to shut up about it sure made this appellate issue a juicier one for Chauvin.

Yeah, no. My move is to just sit there and nod. Except one time, we fired the local before an appearance in Baraqua and when I spoke I actually slipped up and said "can't make the convenient decision" and almost found my self in jail

I think the d would have a cause for ew trial. Again, I took crim law pass/fail I know nothing but gotta be a problem with thatfictional move.

Yeah, I guess I'm not sure that the defendant gets to make assumptions about jurors because of their race.

ETA: And if they are, then I don't know that there is any county in the state it could be moved to. With the possible exception of Ramsey (St. Paul), the rest have to be significantly whiter. Also, the jury pool is from the whole county, which is much whiter than the city itself.

No, one wouldn't think that. One might have thought that about a different sort of establishment Republican two decades ago.

But that's not what happened here. Here it was announced to the public. Why? To score political points in the new "You cancel me; I cancel you" game that is American politics.
No. To score political points with the kind of people who like DeSantis. People who are happy with what he did, regardless of what anyone writes in an open letter in Harper's or what anyone else says in response. Those people aren't playing a political game, and they're not scoring points. That's the way you think about politics.

UDeSantis is inviting a challenge that may result in a court ruling he cannot engage in such censorship. But he doesn't care. That's not what he wants. What he wants is the public notoriety for having joined the "cancel war" with the biggest cannon of all: State Enforced Censorship.
No, what he wants is to try to ban speech he doesn't like. No one gives a shit about "joining the 'cancel war'".

The Biden wing of the party is throwing so much cash around they should be able to hold the House in 2022. But the social justice/cancel-everybody-who-triggers-you wing is like a termite farm eating the planking of what Biden is trying to build. If the Dems lose the House in 2022, you can blame a culture war their crazy left wing decided to ramp up against an enemy far more skilled in that sort of warfare, and utterly nihilistic.
You certainly "can" blame all sorts of bad things on your own hobby-horse issues -- you're already doing it with what DeSantis has done. Thanks to free speech, no one can stop you. But you'll be utterly, foolishly wrong.

yeah, I get your edit once limited to Minnesota. Like I said I had a brain fart based upon what change of venue means in Federal Court.

As to your first point, I thought (honestly do not remember) there were cases where verdicts were bounced because Prosecutors excluded black jurors from a panel for a black defendant? That's different that puffing the black % for a white defendant?

Sounds like neither of us in on solid footing here, but I think the defendant has to show discriminatory intent by the prosecutor and I'm not sure a change of venue to a demographically different county would be the same.

So when I'm out now I always carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer. When I run I almost always end up needing to go number 2. I sanitize the toilet seat of the porta potties I use with TP before sitting down.

And I realized today that even when (if?) Covid is all gone I will still sanitize toilet seats when i am out of my house.

As George Clooney says to Catherine Zeta-Jones in Intolerable Cruelty, you fascinate me.
