I mean the FF miles were nice and my clients aren't the ones to complain, but if I am a client who looks at bill that's a hell motherfuckin no.

Yeah I do some contingency plaintiff's work and have taken multiple out-of-state depositions from my office. It's nice.

From the point of view of your employer, it is also a no. For plaintiff attorney's on continency fees, their sunk costs just went way down.

They really don’t care because technically it’s not a cost it’s a float. In New York now it comes 100% out of the client’s share.

There’s nothing worse than getting off a 6 AM flight from let’s say JFK-BUF, getting off the plane, looking for a stall (because you left your house too early) and the first, second and third bathrooms from your gate each have a line for the one stall.

You fly on planes w/o toilets?

Basically. Those puddle jumpers are hard to let loose in.

There is a special ring in hell for people who refuse to answer a call but respond by email a minute after you've left a message.

Why are they always the same? It's always this nasally, mildly passive aggressive, milquetoast voice. You hear the voice message and you know, Fuck, I will not be able to resolve this with a quick call and agreement. We'll have to have ten emails, and this kid's going to need to research a bunch of shit.

I'm on a flat fee, you little shit!

If you're on a flat fee and making a claim against my client, I want to assign just this person to deal with you. Except that he should make you do the research if you want to get paid.

Please, let me know who they are, I need to give them a raise.

Other way around. I'm saving this person a headache.

These things are chip shots. "Hi. Here's the workout. I'll send over the agreement asap. Alternatively, you can sue and I can switch to an hourly structure for litigation. But I'd rather not because settlement makes sense here and that's wasted expense."

With an older lawyer, conversation is ten minutes. With a millennial? No conversation, ever. Emails. Which just create more emails.

Not an issue in what we do. There’s always a pot or two to recover from out of the fifty.

People answer calls? The only call I answer is my dad, wife and kid. Everyone else goes straight to voicemail.

90% of my calls are scheduled zooms or dial-ins, but I'll pick up an unscheduled one now or then.

I'd pick up in Sebby's situation if I weren't busy, but I'd probably wonder why he didn't schedule the damn thing.

Separate question: AITA or is it a nice, light-hearted moment if I have the associate play "Winner takes it all" as background while we're waiting for callers to assemble on a zoom. Situation is one where we're winning.

I understand seb’s frustration. You make a call to opposing to talk through a point of contention and they don’t answer. Then a minute later you get an email from em. Em is afraid to talk?

Separate problem, since lockdown several corporate clients’ calls are ID’ed as “cell call.” I'd never answer that before, but now I tend to, so I've great background on insurance options.
