I googled the Enclave because I couldn't picture it and realized my sister's car is of the type you want. She has a Suburu Tribeca and I think it's a nice car. Bear in mind that I am not a "car person" but it is a comfortable ride and has nice features and decent storage even when the third row seats are being used.

I was very surprised when the once and future ex suggested I look at Suburus this summer and even more surprised by how nice they were. They are very popular among athletes for the awd and gear-hauling capacity, and they look pretty cool with ski and bike racks.

Yeah except I don't know why all wheel drive would appeal specifically to athletes (and I'm assuming she's talking about non-professional ones) more than nonathletes. Fugee Mom bought her Suburu for the AWD on winter country roads.

I don't get the gear hauling. What athletic gear needs to be hauled? Kayak? A boat if you water-ski? A mountain bike? All the shit I think of that athletes need fits in the trunk of almost any car.

As for winter sports and awd, okay. I suppose. "Athlete" seems like a strange shorthand for "person who may drive in the snow a lot."
