My Penske Mugs and Mousepads sold out at CafePress.com. I think that you can still pick up some of Paigow's product line there, if you are so inclined, but you should probably act fast. ymmv.

Score one for the Birthers

Arizona will require Presidential candidates to present a birth certificate, which the Sec'y of State has to deem valid, to get on the ballot.

Fantastic. If it's a story, it's either because the Sec'y of State bounces the sitting President over birther nonsense, which would be a wonderful thing for the Democrats in an election year, or it's because the Sec'y of State looks at the birth certificate and confirms what we all know, which would be less wonderful but still fine.

Agree. Obama isn't counting on those 10 EC votes anyway (although AZ went blue in 1996, it was the only time that happened since 1972, and I don't see it in the cards for 2012).

"Allowing" states to run elections for federal offices has always been a very dicey business. And the alternatives are even worse.

But the presidential election is each state choosing the electors who will actually elect the president, no?

you don't think it could gain traction elsewhere?

I think the birther theory is insane, but I always wondered about why he didn't release it- I mean I get "fuck you, you didn't ask Bush or Kerry for theirs," but I could see a bunch of people not seeing that.

He did release it, just not a form that the birthers want to believe is valid. The Hawaiian dept of health head said that the form released is the standard birth certificate provided.

See snopes for example.

Orly Taitz (among others) wouldn't be satisfied by *anything* presented as Obama's birth certificate, even if Obama obtained the original from the Hawaii files and let them have (not just see) the original, so there's no point in doing anything more.

I'd bet the AZ SoS (and anyone hoping to replace him) hopes it dies.

Or did you see a statement of support from the SoS?

ps: I agree that, if passed, it's likely to spread.

I think it is reasonable for the administration to believe that this small tax will be more than offset by increase demand from an aging us population, increased demand from emerging economies that are not yet significant markets for these companies, but surely will be, and increased demand fro
the newly insured.

Also, describing margin for makers of devices that involve any kind of technology can hardly be described as tight. Think a minimum of 30%. Which is why the Stryker guy quotes didn't sound too concerned (and he is on the small side of the big guys).

Whch brings us to whether to weep for the small guys. If there are companies outthre trying to eke by making only bedpans, maybe so. But the typical model for a small guy in the industry is to bring a new technology to market and sell themselves to Boston scientfical, Abbott, st Jude, medtronic, j&j, Stryker and smith & nephews (for example) often without ever really making any money.

were you unable to read the story, because it sounds like you were unable to read the story.

p.s. this is the "revenue" end. isn't a part of the "cost cutting" going to be shaving down those margins?

as I said before, this is one of the few areas where manufacturing still occurs in the U.S. that means they always know how to "find" a bunch of money anytime they want to move manufacturing to China.
