Vancouver

Anyone have any must-sees for Vancouver or Whistler? Restaurant tips? Quick trip coming up -- 2 nights in Vancouver, 2 at Whistler. Only things on the itinerary so far are Ziptrek tour and visiting Chinatown. I want to make it to Victoria Island if we have time...

But there is (again) some very good advice on here right now, including being prepared to demonstrate to a judge that Grandma and Grandpa McDouche should not be entitled to any visitation rights that cut in to your already limited time. I am thinking that emails, facebook threats and other concrete manifestations of their evilness would be particularly useful.

This was very corgil of you.

I didn't see you at Mary's in Portland on Saturday night.

I really, really hope you went to some place better than Mary's, too.

too bad you don't live in Detroit or NY or Chicago*, or one of us boy-socks would get in his fucking face. unfortunately we don't have much manly man power in Minnesota:(

8or seattle

There is something that is not quite equivalent to couples counseling for divorced folks, but there is something that can be useful in cases like these. Courts frequently order mediation when there are interpersonal conflicts that get in the way of doing what's best for the child.

The Museum of Anthropology at UBC is awesome, even for the non-anthropologists among us, a group of which I would describe myself as being a member (heh). When we went, we were there around when it opened and they had to kick us out when they closed.

It's actually Vancouver Island. Victoria, the capital city of British Columbia, is located on Vancouver Island. I would not go to Victoria if you only have 4 nights -- Vancouver Island (home of Pamela Anderson and place where I met Leonard Cohen) deserves a trip to itself.

That said, Vancouver is pretty cool. It has been a while since I have been there, so I'm not sure if everyone gets approached still by heroin addicts wanting to tell you their life story (and that may still go on, so be prepared -- if you make eye contact, they will follow you for blocks), but there's lots to do and see. Gastown is somewhat touristy, but still fun, also Stanley Park is a must-see, and Kitsilano Beach can be fun. For Whistler, I would just go and hike and go for a swim in a cold mountain lake. It's totally beautiful.

Oh, also if Wreck Beach is still around, that can be entertaining -- although be prepared to see a lot of pasty tattooed flesh.

We did. But we hit Mary's before dinner and were pleasantly surprised. I was expecting pregnant and toothless.
