Do not miss Vij in Vancouver. Crazy good Indian. The bar at the Opus Hotel is good late night, and by late night I mean after 2.

In Whistler the Bearfoot Bistro champagne bar/restaurant is worth doing. the tasting menu is very good, and the champagne menu is amazing. Buy a bottle and they take you down to the cellars and teach you to sabre it. The bar there can also get wilde, sometimes, it seems a bit of hit and miss. Other than that my apres ski is the saloon place across from the Whistler gondola, but I am not sure what that is like in the summer. And there is a nice northern italian restaurant in the Village, can't remember the name, but ask around, and the second floor sushi place (again can't remember the name, but its about 500 meteres from the gondola) that is good.

It is very confusing that Vancouver is not on Vancouver Island.

This is about as quality as advice you can find on the internet.

Oh. Right.

Anyhoo, after visiting the third floor guys, you might want to take a water taxi to Granville Island. Kind of kitschy, kind of fun. And there are any number of excellent sushi places to be found. No idea what the hot spot is nowadays.

Oh, and Ty's museum thingy. That is supposedly good too.

Likewise that Wyoming, Penn., is not in Wyoming. I'm sure that's a real stumper for visitors from the north.

When my friend moved to Santa Fe, NM, he saw a sign that said "Las Vegas: 75 miles (or some other short distance)". He is still pissed that there is a Las Vegas, NM. The real Las Vegas is 635 miles away.

If you want something Vancouverish to read, you could go with William Gibson's Pattern Recognition or Spook Country (or Zero History, if you wait a month to go).

Las Vegas, NM is a lovely little town. I am driving through there in a few weeks and can't wait to have a bite at the diner right off I-25.

ETA: Holy crap, it has a website. Really good place for breakfast if you have time.

Does he realize he needs a passport to get from his home to the "real" Las Vegas?

West New York is in New Jersey, and somehow I have gotten a handle on that.

Someone whom I don't know but who is working near me today seems to be using a clip from Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" as her ringtone. What to do?
